But there appears to be some miscommunication somewhere. In it's one star review, the group says "the whole episode could have been better handled if they had instead suggested that they would allow the cake in if we would purchase one of theirs's as a fair reimbursement "
With all due respect to the restaurant, if they can so quickly come up with so many fanciful pattern to appease these quirk demands/requests, they would have been running for ministers or senior managements in MNC and not slaving off in a restaurant.

Hindsight is 20/20. Horse behind the ******* Howitzer cannon, everyone also can talk.
If so kiang then why the group didnt suggest in the first place?
(referring to the review only)

Wait.. he booked a table, told the restaurant it is a birthday celebration and booked a cake from the restaurant, then blame the restaurant for not telling him he cannot bring another outside cake to eat there? People seems to be getting dumber and dumber. Is it due to the air?
Lucky he didn't bring his own bottle of XO and whiskey...he will be in another shock.

Support the restaurant.
They not doing charity they have family to feed.
Raw material cost getting higher need to recover.
What's wrong in earning more?

I go cinema bring my own chair means no need pay? The self entitled diner has to keep in mind that restaurant allowing bring own cake is a privilege not a given right.

Of course....
Why not?

not like its rules.... A matter of respecting rules is not difficult at all;
But the case in the cake wasn't that way.

Now in hindsight, my money my way logic....
:s13:
Put it this way, most probably someone in the party booked a table without knowing the rules, and there was no time to change restaurant. In any case, what can the restaurant do, if it enforces the $50 rule, the number of future customers they lose is the at a minimum the number of people in the party.

Nothing wrong.
No money to pay.
Then, dun act atas.
Me got the money to pay.
I also won't pay the eatery for such fees.
Pay them for farc?
Act atas for farc?
Pay them another additional 10% for service charge for farc?
Pay Govt the extra 7% on top of that 110% extra payment for farc?
That's the reason why some people can't retire.. have to be slaves till the day they die.
Very basic form of financial management 123.. many already failed at it...
We should not make such practices as our Uniquely Singaporean Culture. Instead businesses must create value for their customers.

There will always be willing customers who can pay for it.
Or else the place would have close shop long time ago.

Yes. The diner gets the right to make the eatery lose the business to their competition. Song boh??

I will always ask first hand while making reservations if can bring own cake. It is a very normal concern which I don't understand why he never ask beforehand. If cannot maybe can consider buying the restaurant's cake. It's a joyous occasion, and the least thing anybody wants is a conflict.
