Discussion: Monitors for new Nvidia/AMD GPU

I have no issue with Prism+. Quality is great for me. I think the experience differs person to person. Their aftersales is top notch as well – I had my monitor for almost 1 year and I had to send it for servicing, they offered me an onsite 1-to-1 exchange immediately.

There is a reason why certain things are priced in a certain way. No right or wrong.

Now back to the Asus 2.1 new monitors, any word on pricing of these new machines?

first thing that came to my mind for this post is Xiaomi... it's something i would call cheap and good (not excellent of course)... they started with Redmi phone years ago.. and now i have their 43" 4K TV for under $500... the quality is more than decent.

Been eyeing this one for a while now but at 1.9k, I keep hesitating!

Think it is probably one of the best wide gaming wide monitors in the market atm.

u should discusss gsync or freesync

There all pros and cons with each panel technology. While OLED seems to be good in terms of image quality and color, the price is way too high, and also not as durable as an IPS.

Another candidate will be LG CX48" OLED TV, can use to play PS5 but for pc gaming a little too big liao. Think the sweet spot for me a is still 32"

Thing about 4k gaming is have to use big monitor or else it's just too small on 27" but if get something like a 48" TV for monitor really overkill liao.

Only some freesync monitors will work with Nvidia's adaptive sync. If you can live without that, the 3080 will work fine with freesync monitors.

Was reading up, and i guess at higher frame rates, free/gsync becomes a little less impt, after all the torn screen will be on for a far shorter amount of time.

Just gonna hope for the best. the gsync certified monitors are stupid expensive.

i'm currently using the 55cx as monitor. 1.80m viewing distance. Nice and comfortable. Blows any IPS screen out of the water in every aspect. Burn in risk is there, but mitigated by some care. Like auto hide task bar, dark/black theme, not leaving static elements on for long time.

I think LG has done a lot in the C9 and especially CX, to mitigate the burn in risk. They market the 48CX aggressively as a gaming TV. If burn-in was really such a big problem on this generation of OLEDs i doubt they dare to do it

4k @ 55" has low PPI in theory, but due to the required viewing distance for good ergonomics and eye comfort, text still looks very sharp. The OLED renders text much nicer than my non OLED sony x900e VA. Not sure why, but it just looks better on the OLED.

For hardcore excel/word/productivity tasks i still use my monitor. For games/media consumption the OLED is king.

It's hard to articulate how much of a leapfrog upgrade the perfect blacks, infinite contrast and color reproduction looks like. The OLED pixel response time is also faster so everything feels much more snappy. Even gaming at 4K, 60hz also feels more fluid, versus 1440p 60hz.

If the user can increase the viewing distance from the tv to around 1.6 to 1.8m, a 55" oled is a solid choice. I do this with a cheap ikea linnmon 100x60cm table that is light enough to shift easily, but still reasonably sturdy. Acting like a mobile desk, essentially.

Nice feedback thanks. I plan to use my C9 for console gaming only, it is too big as a gaming/work/productivity monitor for my desk setup. I haven't explored the LG48, didn't know it was for gaming. Thought their gaming series is under Ultragear.

Yea i think the key thing you mention here is the desk setup. For traditional PC monitor desk setups, 48/55CX will be way too big for the viewing distance

Most desks are 60 or 80 cm. At that distance even 48" is too uncomfortable, although your mileage may vary, depending on how tall the user is also. The main problem with putting the tv directly on a desk, is how high the top of the screen will be.

If the desk is deeper at 120 cm, then having the screen on top of the desk means all that desk space is wasted also, since you don't want to block your view of the screen.

So IMO the best trade off arrangement is to wall mount, use wireless kb + mouse on a smaller table, then sit further away. But of course this setup doesn't work for everyone

Actually not really. I am using a 27 inch 4K monitor and I feel it works fine when it comes to gaming (PC and console) and watching movies. Because the PPI is higher when the screen is smaller, I actually think it looks great. 4K for 27 inch may be a problem if you use it for work because the scaling don't always work.
