Hi there, I'm having some trouble setting up so I'm seeking some of your help.

I just bought a new pc and a monitor. The graphic cards' MSI GTX770 and the monitor's the Dell U2312HM. When I use DVI, everything works fine. But if I use the DP cable then the whole screen will be black. I've tried both auto-selecting the input and manually setting the input to DP on the monitor.
Here are some things that I've tried and noticed:

- If I start off with no cable, and then plug in the DP, then the monitor doesn't seem to receive any signal at all. It will just just "Entering Power Saving Mode".
- If I plug the DVI to another monitor, and the DP to the Dell, Windows (And NVIDIA Control Panel) does detect that there are 2 monitors. But only the DVI monitor can display, the DP-Dell one is still black, doesn't matter whether I set the setting to "Extend", "Duplicate", or "Show only on".
- If I'm using 2 cables at once (either to 2 monitors or 2 to the same monitor), and then pull out the DVI one, then the monitor won't go into sleep mode, it's just...black.

I would appreciate it if you can give me some insights and suggestions. I'd prefer not having to bring the whole thing back to SLS.

I was planning on doing that. It seems there's something about the pin 20 on cheap cables. I bought mine for $18 at cybermind. I just hope it's not a problem with the graphic card

Use the cables supplied by Dell.

I faced the same problem too with my U2713H.

Problem might not lies with the DP cable for Dell LCD monitor.

Some model of Dell monitor with DP required the user to select DP in the OSD menu to use DP as input source, failure to do so will result in black/blank screen.

Kindly check what's the current video input source on the Dell monitor before you go Cybermind to bang table.

Try to connect both dvi and dp cable both monitor and gpu. On monitor select dvi mode.
When boot to windows desktop, right click empty space and select "screen resolution".
You will see two monitor screen but only dvi can display it due dp irregular resolution.
So select the dvi display and adjust the resolution to match the dp display and click "Apply" (it may require to restart your com). After that, you can control both dvi and dp resolution.

Wish this will assist you. :)

Displayport not working

I too encountered the same problem. I ordered a Displayport to HDMI cable from DELL. I plugged it into my U2312HM monitor. It just goes blank irregardless how I set, whether auto detect or set it to Displayport only.

Anyone has luck?

Dp to hdmi dun work out of the box like hdmi to dvi, dvi to vga. It needs a special adaptor. Try using dvi cable.

The cable you bought is DP (Source) to HDMI (Display).

What you need is (HDMI (source, gfx card) to DP (U2312HM) Converter Cable.

You can get from Amazon cheaply. Around USD$100 :D

Don't use any of those cheap DP cables from SLS/Funan with Dell monitors. They won't work and it's a known issue [just google and you will see all the complaints in forums], one of the lanes in those cables is wired not according to specifications. In the cheap cables simply all pins are connected but unfortunately that's not what the specifications suggest, one pin should be unconnected. The problem is power gets delivered through the wrongly connected lane to the device and Dell monitors don't like that. The only DP cables that work with Dell monitors are the ones from Dell and Belkin. I had the same issue, tried 3 cables from SLS and Funan and in the end the only cable that worked was the expensve Belkin one from HN.
