Plastic bag really ish one of the top environment sustainability concern? Any experts know?

Only that they are paying with taxpayers money, and citizens still need to pay them and pay extra for nothing. You look at the solar panels that they installed on HDB, etc, and they call it “sustainable”. There may be installed on the top of the HDB, but I don’t think they benefit the people staying in the block because they pay the same electric tariffs as anyone else. So just put for the sake of ticking “in” boxes to impress people, but 0 benefit for people. Again, these are taxpayers’ money.Seems like the solution to every problem... is to Pay and Pay...
All the benefits of solar panels are flown back to them to cover the capital cost and maintenance cost.Only that they are paying with taxpayers money, and citizens still need to pay them and pay extra for nothing. They are helping their own supporters who may be the boss of making the plastic bags. How does charging for plastic bag help?
Why not target the manufacturers of plastic bags? At the end of the day if they still keep producing plastic bags then it serves no purpose to charge consumers??
Money goes into different pocket, just not ours.We go buy the plastic bags and throw got diff meh?
In singapore, based solely on supermarket plastic bag charges, No. NEA expect us to bag our bags before throwing. Most of us live in apartment and need plastic bags to throw our trash everyday. Your plastic bags HAVE to come from somewhere. They can even charge you $1 but it still not going to go any greener since you still have to throw your trash. It's just greenwashing by government.Plastic bag really ish one of the top environment sustainability concern? Any experts know?![]()
So many if them come up stupid ideas, till want to give them X also difficult. If and when PAP loses 5 GRCs in 2025 GE and the voters feedback is because of Grace Fu's idea to charge for plastic bags in supermarkets. Then PAP will reverse the rule or modify the rule in a face saving way.
There will be black, sullen and angry faces during the press conference after the GE results.
This has happened before.
A very long time ago, (I think) Govt forbid the burning of ancestor worship joss papers on Singapore pavements and grass patches. The reasons were solid and good - health, cleanliness, safety. All justifiable.
But then in one GE, they lost Anson constituency; and public feedback was because of that rule.
After the election loss of Anson immediately the rule was modified. They provide specially made bins to burn those joss papers.
For this Grace Fu idea to charge for plastic bags, wait and see what happens.
