Hoping someone has tried this before, would the following work ?

2 x satellite speaker to sound card Front L/R channel

2.1 sound bar to sound card Centre/Subwoofer channel

In essence, a 3.1 speaker system

Possible If your soundbar have separate analog input ... Subwoofer input and L/R treat as center

Sound good enough? YMMV

3.1 is usually done with 4 channels using 3 normal speakers and one subwoofer

Your implementation won't work because the 2.1 sound bar won't know it is connected to center/sub, it will assume it is connected to L/R and behave accordingly. So the left driver will produce center, the right driver will produce sub, and the sub will produce sub.

One more thing: You need your front speaker to sound the same unless you enjoy your protagonist changing voice as he moves across the room.

3.1 is 2.1 with front speakers.

so connect the soundbar to l/r and the other to front. then choose 3.1 in settings

My previous 5.1 speaker was setup like this,

FRONT L/R speaker single jack to sound card Green
REAR L/R speaker single jack to sound card Black
CEN/SUB single jack to sound card Yellow

Thought it would be similar except for the lack of REAR channels. The 2.1 soundbar also terminates with a single jack.

Yah, that's what I am hoping to achieve.

Except in windows, there's no 3.1 config. I would have to select 5.1 but disable the rear channels.

Get a 5.1 speaker like from Logitech, don't plug in the rear speaker.
Only front and centre/sub.
Done easy 3.1 setup.

5.1 and disable rear will work too.
