Hey all, I am new to this forum and I have some enquiries on my current rig. I am a newbie at PC building so please bear with me.
Firstly, here is my rig. This is built about a month or two ago. My current specs are:
CPU - i5 4690
GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970
MB - Asrock B85 Killer
PS - Corsair Cx600M
Ram - 8GB Gskill 1600Mhz
HDD - WD Blue 1TB
SSD - Samsung 840 128GB

1. Based on estimation, how long will this rig last before i must upgrade it? (I am gaming on a 1080p monitor.) (I usually play AAA titles such as Battlefield 4, Far Cry)
2. When I do upgrade this system, is it recommended to change the MB together with the graphics card or I can just reuse the MB?
3. Lastly, for graphics card upgrade in the future, is it better to for example, add a GTX 970 to make it a SLI config, or to just buy a new single GPU?

Thanks in advance for all the help! It seems like this is a great community and hope to know you guys better in the future! Cheers! :D

1. Looks like a solid build to me bro, you should not worry on upgrading anytime soon for 1080p.

2. Just keep using the mobo unless you want to use a different gen of CPU.

3. Depends on the available GPUs by the time you decide to upgrade. Perhaps by then the next gen AMD 390 or new GTXs will be another leap in technology.

Cheers!

Change psu to superflower hx600w or saesonic g650w eill do. Corsair cx series is rubbish.

No point sli 1 yr down the road or so as by then, gpu may be close to sli performance. Also, ur mobo and psu need to upgrade now. Doing it later isnt cost effective.

If possible, up the ssd to 256gb if its within ur budget.

1) Will last you another 5 years. i5 4690 is already very good. If you want to upgrade within the same price range, you are just gonna get another better power efficiency i5 4690 performance cpu.

For example, the i5 2600 which was released in 2011 has almost the same performance as a i5 4690 released in 2014 but less power efficient.

2) Depend on the technology. Maybe 5 years down the road Intel will releasing an entirely new motherboard design that requires you to change almost all part.

3) In the future like say 3 years down the road, shops might not even be selling GTX 970 anymore because it will be replaced by newer version, how to SLI when you can't even get buy it. It is best to go for single GPU. Additionally, if you have two gpu SLI, you will be only getting less than 1.9x the gaming performance of a single gpu for most game. Two gpu SLI is not equal to 2 times the performance. The performance for 3 or 4 gpu SLI is even worst.

The performances of SLI hugely depend on how the game is designed to take advantage of it.
