Mobo + processor: Asus H97-PRO GAMER + i5 4690 (506)
Casing :CORSAIR 450D (179)
PSU : SEASONIC X-SERIES 650W MODULAR POWER SUPPLY (175)
RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY 1600MHZ ( 4GBx2pcs ) (119)
GPU: GTX 970 (Which brand? 469-615)
ODD: LG BR (100+)
SSD: SAMSUNG 850 PRO 128GB SSD ($138)
HDD : W.D-B 1TB (103)

Comments:

1) Is this supposed to be a gaming rig? What games?

2) Very expensive mobo. The i5 4690 will not yield significant performance gains in gaming over a i5 4460, no point spending so much $$$ for a i5 4690.

3) Seasonic X-series is top quality PSU, but a bit expensive. Can get Superflower HX 600 for $109 instead or a S12G 550W non modular PSU for $105 instead.

4) Overkill HDD. WD Blue 1TB HDDs would do fine and only costs $75.

5) Overkill SSD. Would spend a bit more for a Crucial MX100 256GB for $159, a Crucial BX100 256GB for $149 or an OCZ ARC 100 240GB for $154 and get more SSD storage space instead.

6) Why does your friend need a Blu-Ray drive for? :s11:

1) Superflower PSUs are known for having performance on par with top-end PSUs from well known brands, hence the HX 600 is a good quality PSU. Superflower PSUs are distributed by Tech-Dynamic and their RMA center is at Bedok.

2)
Black: Performance
Blue: Mainstream
Green: Energy efficient storage (at the cost of speed)
Red: NAS usage
Purple: Surveillance usage

3) Blu-Ray playback is not as straight forward as you think. You see, the desktop use Blu-Ray drives that are sold in the hardware market and in OEM PCs actually lack the proper decoding software to decode the encryption on the Blu-Ray. This means that you can't just pop in a Blu-Ray into your desktop Blu-Ray drive and expect it to playback your movies, it will not work.

To playback a Blu-Ray disk on your desktop, you need to do one of these things:

-Pay USD 100+ for a special Blu-Ray playback software.
-Plug in a proper Blu-Ray player to your monitor
-Use MakeMKV/Handbrake to rip the Blu-Rays into your rig into a .mkv video format and use the rig to playback your ripped video files.

Thus, would be a better idea to just get a proper Blu-Ray player for the Blu-Rays unless your friend is patient enough to rip the Blu-Rays into the rig.

R5 is going for $159 at PC Themes. It's brilliant, well built, has more than enough space for anything, and has better noise-damping than anything else out there right now.

There's no reason to spend more on anything else except for more specialized circumstances.

R5 or R4 both is silent oriented

$149 - $169 (non-window / window)

Superflower leadex 650w is pretty solid and full modular ($139)

Ssd maybe try and get Crucial mx100 256gb ($159)

CPU & mobo: Asrock B85M-HDS + i5 4430 - $361 - Add $53 for i5 4690
RAM: whichever 1600MHz CL9 4GBx2 RAM kit - $~120
SSD: Crucial MX100 256GB SATA-3 SSD - $159
HDD: WD Blue 1TB SATA-3 HDD - $75
GPU: Gigabyte GTX970 Windforce 4GB (non-G1) - $579
Optical: DVDRW - $25
Case: Fractal Design Define R5 Non-window - $159
PSU : Seasonic G Series 550W Modular - $125

Additional comments:

- All prices from PC Themes latest pricelist.

- If we extrapolate the thermal and noise results of the Tomshardware roundup of the GTX960 vendor cards to the GTX970, then the Gigabyte is most likely to have the most reliable cooling solution with no coil whine. Therefore Gigabyte.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-geforce-gtx-960,4038-10.html
MSI should be fine too.

- Go for the Crucial SSDs, and nothing below 240GB. Any higher speed is unnoticeable and any lower SSD capacity can significantly impact the durability of the drive's sectors due to increased recycling of writes on the cells.
Samsung SSDs = TLC **** (reduced durability), dishonest tactics (with the current read/write slowdown saga over their Evos), overpricing

- I dunno anything about BD drives; just going by Alt.X's advice here.

- Go for Seasonic's G-series. Cheaper, no less reliable, and the modular cables means less cable clutter.

FD R5 is the case to get... but if you gonna put it on your desk I suggest to make sure your desk able to take the load. With everything in it it is gonna be very heavy.

But the build quality, cable management holes, the door(can swap the opening direction) to hide the dvd-drive. Best thing I like abt the case is the filters are easily removable from the front. no need to take out from the back, lift the casing up etc.

If using this spec, any idea how long it will take?

He plan to add in these 2 items,
-CORSAIR H60 CPU COOLER
-Asus PCE-AC68

1) Worth to get CORSAIR H60 CPU COOLER as he will be serving NS this year.

2) Does anyone have any issue with Asus PCE-AC68?

1) Most likely several hours per movie, not worth the wait for just a movie.

2) If not doing OC, no point getting a H60. At most a cheap aftermarket CPU air cooler will do. Can also consider the Deepcool Maelstorm 120 AIO for $59 instead.
