Hi all!

I'm looking to build my own pc (get the guys at Sim Lim to do it for me) or buy direct from a brand (Dell/Aftershock/etc).

I need some advice on which is better, and what specs I should be looking at.

Here are some details:

Usage: mainly for gaming, streaming, and movies. I'm on my computer most of the time I am at home, so I am quite a heavy user.

I mainly play Dota 2, CSGO, Starcraft 2, and other games like Watchdogs, GTA V, Dragon Age and some other new titles. Hoping to be able to run all of these games at ultra/max/very high settings.

Budget: looking to not spend more than $2,000 on my set up, so maybe between $1,500 - $2,000?

Others: preferably the unit should come with SSD as well as be able to connect to a 5G wireless network.

I'm planning to get it this weekend or latest by one of the weekdays next week. Appreciate all your help and advice on what and where to get what I need. I'm quite a noob when it comes to the hardware stuff...

Appreciate the help!!
Thank you!!

Hi TS, buy a ready made machine if you just want to spend money and have zero appreciation for your machine. Only DIY if you really want to understand how your machine functions and be its doctor when it coughs or sneezes.

Be warned that DIY is addictive and once you get hooked, you will never stop trying to perfect it.

One thing you can be very encouraged about is the fact that the community at HWZ is very friendly to help with DIY and diagnosis of system issues.

There is even a very friendly user here by the handle of gs who operates a shop at #02-32 of Sim Lim Square (SLS) who is always willing to help the uninitiated to DIY do building and diagnosis at a charge of whatever you are willing to part with. He (gs a.ka. Nigel) is willing to lend tools or spare parts to build or diagnose system issues as long as it is within his operation hours.

End of the day, you need to decide whether you want to spend more money on convenience or more money on components. The choice is yours. :)
