DIY Desktop (Any Promotion)

Gonna get a DIY desktop at Sim Lim for the first time.
See that there is CEF and SITEX coming up. Is there any savings if I wait till then?

If its useful, looking to get the following specs:

i7 6700
1060
8gb or 16gb RAM

the rest is standard ssd, hdd, optical drive

Inching towards ASUS mobo and gpu at the moment. Also appreciate any other build recommendations. Thanks in advance.

Purpose? Budget? If you buy online will also have savings though u just missed a great event.

For reference u can try searching within the forums for example builds, pretty sure there will be some out there if you are looking for just the parts.

just thinking of gg to one of the shops and getting one of those builds that they have in the brochure.

understand that the shows will be pre-built systems, just wondering if the stores at sls will revise price list during that time frame.

well trying to do some gaming with some multitasking. currently using a 4-5 yr old laptop. so thinking to get something that is not that obsolete so i can last a little longer too.

If u want the best out of your money, it's best to diy. Those pre-built systems are usually very awful.

So far I only have basic games like Fifa, Dota. Will prolly dabble in others once my comp is able to support too. Gonna have a dual monitor setup.

kinda hard to reco u a suitable build, since u have not tell me your budget and next whats youre requirement for the monitor? included in the buget as well?

Paiseh. Budget preferably at 1500 w windows? Monitors alr bought. Dell S2316h. If I rmb correctly should be 1080,60hz,ips. Wanna run them on hdmi.

The big names like Asus, MSI and Gigabyte have better build quality but are also more expensive.

Zotac and Palit are the two popular budget brands. These are usually cheaper but the trade-off would of course be cheaper components.

The price difference can be quite substantial. The Asus GTX 1070 Strix is in excess of $800 and by comparison, Zotac GTX 1070 can be around 550 to 650. Zotac is a popular choice due to the 5-year warranty and recent Qoo10 promotions.

Zotac and palit are better value buys. You pay at least 20-30% more for MSI, gigabyte or Asus but unlikely you will get that much better performance.

to be honest, how much of the performance you get sometimes depends on luck.. so zotac might outperform Asus if you are lucky.. but of course it also depends on the cooling so usually brand like MSI, gigabyte and asus provide better cooling solution, but in my opinion zotac is not far behind from them.

$1500 might be possible if you're not into aesthetics. probably a simple case to go along with 6700, H170 board and 1060.

Assuming that you're getting the PC from shop, including installation etc.

It is of course cheaper to buy online from Amazon, Lazada, Qoo10 etc with the right coupons at selected promo period. so it really depends on which of the following route you want to take:

1)Buy everything from 1 shop, let them assemble, done in 1-2 days at most.

2)Buy part by by, from physical or online stores. Camp for great discounts. Self-assemble. Might take 1-2 weeks. But you get the most bang for your bucks
