considering to build a new desktop

1. is a dvdrw obsolete? Seems some desktop comes without one.
2. diy enthusiast still visit reputable shops in SLS or theres cheaper option online with the same warranty terms?

any recommendations or suggestions?

did consider dell systems, but troubleshooting or wanna diy upgrade could be restricted

1) DVD drive are a thing of the past.
Only prebuild PC still have.
DIY wise you have to find a casing like Cooler master series E500L

Other than that will be very rare.

2) Issue now is graphic card prices are very high.
Prebuild desktop or laptop is better option if you be paying a lot for graphic card.

Depend on your usage, if for work/studying prebuild is OK.
For gaming wise DIY is possible but you have to a big budget as graphic card are very expensive.
If not you can consider Lenovo Legion gaming desktop but no optical drive.

Most of the software like Windows are through USB, if you have any old SW
on CD than you will need a DVD drive.

no, but since they are all downloadable (you just buy the key and not the media, right?), you can load it into a thumbdrive (assuming windows)

for other OS, network install, or download and load onto usb storage media, is SOP.

if you are ordering and assembling parts, you would realise you don't have media, so you would order it along with the key.

however, most people who do DIY computers, tend not to do it as their first ever computer ie they tend to have an existing pc in the house.

but, if you don't want to order the media, one way is to go over to friend's house and download.
same situation like if your hdd crash and you buy a replacement one

very true.

to be fair, if you have a lot of stuff on cd/dvd and you want to upload them into pc/server/nas, then a dvd drive does make sense. all boils down to use.

if u only care about price and not worried about parts quality and after sales service, then aftershock is an ok choice. i would generally recommend other system integrators like dreamcore or sls shops to get builds from though.

the 3 year warranty is a blanket on all parts, even for those that have longer warranties from local distro. ram for eg, usually is lifetime, or psu, good ones can range from 5 to 10 years, system integrators like aftershock still only offer 3 years. some sls shops like pct also do provide 1 yr onsite warranty for pcs built by them, while still letting u enjoy the full distro warranty.

yes u can choose parts, but the options are very limited and the base spec tends to be extremely budget like using entry level mobos, in house brand ssd or aio. mobo can impact performance if not configured or cooled correctly, which tends to be the case for models like asus prime or gigabyte ds3h. the psu while not bad is usually also entry level, and u should never skimp on psu quality if u want ur rig to last.
