Hi Guys and Gals

Objective : Primarily gaming (BF4, CSGO, Fifa, H1Z1 and so on). I will be gaming on a 1080p monitor (Dell U2414H) for the foreseeable future. I would like to max out current titles and hopefully games coming out in the next one year.

Budget : Around SGD 1,700.

CPU : Intel Core i5-4590
Motherboard : Asus H97-Pro Gamer
RAM : Corsair Vengeance LP 1600 MHz - 8 GB
Storage (SSD) : Sandisk Ultra II 240GB (already purchased)
Storage (HDD) : Will be using an external 1TB drive for now.
ODD : Samsung/Asus DVDRW
PSU : SeaSonic 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular
Casing : Fractal Define R5
OS : Windows 8/10
Wi-Fi : Asus PCE-AC68 802.11a/b/g/n/ac PCI-Express x1
GPU : To be decided (GTX 970 or R9 390)

Need Wi-Fi as getting the Ethernet Cable in my room is not possible for now. :(

From what I have read in the forums some of the recommended shops are Trade Pac/PC Themes/Bizgram. Hope to go enquire at the shops in SLS this weekend and hopefully buy next weekend or end of the month.

No prior experience but I will be assembling the PC myself. :s22:

Any comments/recommendations are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Any particular reason in getting the i5 4590? For gaming wise i5 4460 is on par with higher end processors. R9 390 has 8gb ram which can help u if u wish to go to 2 or 4k gaming in the future as compared to gtx 970 3.5gb ram

Results have shown R9-390 and R9-390X will be GPU limited way before memory so the extra 8GB VRAM doesn't really help much to futureproof games.

I think Asus wifi adap are pretty good. Are you using the regular router thats given by your ISP ?

Get those that supports 5GHz wifi

5G short distance, higher speeds, if bedroom far away from router locations, speeds will be affected.

Thank you SEvsNK and MoneyFace. My reasoning is as follows

CPU : I initially wanted to go for the i5-4690 paired with a Z97 board. Since I wanted to cut cost a bit I decided to go one step down. I would rather have a bit of an overpowered CPU than choose what is adequate at the moment, just to hopefully prolong how long I use the CPU.

GPU : I would like to game at 1440p, however, since the good 1440p gaming monitors are expensive now, I had rather wait for another year. So, as long as the GPU can max out games coming out in the next 1 year at 1080p I will be happy.

I am leaning towards the GTX 970. From what I have read over the past year on the GPU wars I feel Nvidia tends to have better/regular driver updates for latest games and better software (GeForce Experience). Reviews also seem to consistently show that Maxwell cards run cooler than Hawaii. I am not in to modding games and hence I doubt I will need the extra VRAM on the 390. I am going to give the Green team a chance and if I am not satisfied then my next buy will be from the Red team.

Do let me know if any of my opinions are wrong.

$20+
:D

costly and not as good as directly wired.

Thank you Entry Level PC, arhjaye and MoneyFace.

I stay in a rented place with some other people. I tend to have the bedroom door closed when I am at home. The router, which is the Singtel Dual Band one (Aztech I think), is across the corridor (5 ft) from my bedroom door. I intend to try and figure out a way to get the cable in my room without obstructing the corridor, if I do then might not need the WiFi adaptor. This would help with gaming and also saving money.

Thank you Francis85, Mib500 and b3njaminlee.

Recently house mates upgraded the internet to Singtel Fibre (think 300M) so it is a dualband router. The place I intend to place the PC is approx. 15 ft away from router with a wall in between. As mentioned in the previous post hopefully I can find a way to get an Ethernet cable in my room so I can avoid relying on WiFI. Fingers crossed.

Simple.
Get FLAT Cable.
They can go under the door.
