Hi guys,

I need some advise from seniors here to build my very first rig. A total newbie here.

Here is what I intend to use it for.

Casual Gaming: Mostly playing Dota 2 (Mid-high settings). Usually I play other games on my console. Dun mind playing games at mid settings.
Entertainment: Music and movies
Work: MS Office. Basic photoshop usage.

I need an OS, Monitor, keyboard and mouse also.

Would prefer a better motherboard for future upgrades if possible. Using wifi connection at home too.

Budget: 1300-1500

Thanks in advance.

1) Name any other games that you play.

2) Please define the term 'future upgrades'. What upgrades?

3) State internet plan and model of router used.

1) Assassins Creed unity that's all.
2) Future upgrades - > my intention was to get a good motherboard so I could upgrade to a better graphics card in the future.
3) Starhub 100mbps fibre plan and D-link DIR865L

Hope this helps.

CPU+ Mobo: ASROCK H81M-HDS + i5 4460 (320)
RAM: G.SKILL/KINGSTON PC 12800/1600MHZ DDR3 CL11 VALUE RAM (8GB) (100)
GPU: POWER COLOR R7 260X 2GB OC (179)
HDD: TOSHIBA 1TB 7200RPM (69)
DVD-RW: LG 24X DVD-RW SATA OEM (25)
PSU: SUPERFLOWER HX 600M (99)
Case: DEEPCOOL TESSERACT (65)
OS: WINDOWS 7 HOME PREM (120)
Networking: ASUS PCE-N53 (75)

Total cost: $1052

Buy at PC Themes, #04-15, and ask for discounts. DIY yourself. If you can't into DIY, get PC Themes to assemble for you for a fee.

Notes:

1) This rig is optimised more for your Photoshop work and DOTA 2. You may very likely have to play Assassin's Creed: Unity at Low and maybe even have to lower the resolution from 1920X1080 to make it playable, Assassin's Creed: Unity is a rather tough to run game due to poor optimisation by Ubisoft. This rig can play DOTA 2 at max settings without issues in 1080p.

2) As long as the mobo has a PCI-E X16 slot, the mobo can use any GPU in the market. Even this cheap H81M-HDS has a PCI-E X16 slot and thus you can install a Titan Z or R9 295X2 onto this H81M-HDS without any issues.

Possible if I were to use an AMD processor? Can recommend a similar setup of processor (Amd) and motherboard?

Better not go AMD. AMD FX CPUs are currently not worth the $$$ right now as AMD FX CPUs are not as cheap in Singapore as AMD CPU prices in the USA. No cheap AMD AM3+ mobos avaliable in Singapore either.

If you want to try AAA titles in the future, you are going to need to upgrade your GPU. A R7 260X is good enough for Medium settings at best. Go get at least a R9 280 for $285 unless you are willing to upgrade your GPU in the future when you have saved enough $$$ for an upgrade.

Another question would be which mobo will be better ASROCK H81M-HDS vs MSI B85-G41 PC MATE as the price difference is not much.

The B85-G41 PC Mate has a lot more mobo features than the Asrock H81M-HDS.

Thanks in advance.
An unorthodox combination, but best option for you thus far....

CPU+MB: Intel Core i3-4150 + Gigabyte GA-H97N-WIFI (Rev 1.1) @ $303
With Intel Wireless-AC 7260 Dual Band card onboard for best wireless stability and high throughput.
No combo will provide better wireless-AC card while maintaining compatibility at this price point.

RAM: Crucial DDR3-1600 CL11 8GB @ $96
GPU: PowerColor R7-250X 1GB @ $130
Lower mid range graphics card overkill for DotA 2, and enough for mainstream games in mid PQ settings.
SSD: SanDisk Ultra Plus 128GB @ $98
HDD: Western Digital Blue 1TB @ $68
ODD: Samsung 24X CD/DVD Writer [OEM] @ $21
PSU: FSP Hexa+ 450W [80 Plus] @ $46
Not an issue with GTX 970.
CASE: Xigmatek Recon @ $38
Great space for future faster graphics card.
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit [OEM] @ $115
DSP: Acer H226HQL 21.5" LED [eIPS] @ $179
IPS panel best for movie.
PHP: Logitech MK120 @ $17

Total: $1111

Buy others from Tradepac, #05-19. Haggle for discounts.

HI AGAIN GUYS!

If i were to use the following GPU as above, will the power supply be enough or do i need to change to a higher wattage. As I checked from the web the minimum wattage for the GPU above is 750W. Any recommendation? Also would the casing be a good fit?
