Asking on behalf of a friend. He has a budget of not more than 1.4k for the new rig. It's an overhaul so need monitor. Keyboard and mouse not required. Usage is mainly for entertainment - gaming, browsing the net, watching videos etc.

Any suggestions for the parts?

What games your friend play? 1080p or 1440p?

Light gaming like L4D2 but I would think it is better to get a mid range gfx. I will never know what other games he might play in the future.

Also, maybe a 27" 1440p monitor if budget allows. I believe there are a few reputable Korea brand monitors. Don't think my friend is willing to splurge on a Dell.

Otherwise, do leave a suggestion for a 1080p monitor as well. The size for FHD monitor prob ard 24"~27"

Additionally, I would also like him to have an SSD for OS and HDD for storage. I think that would make a huge difference in the user's experience.

I think just go for 1080, because if light games, wont really matter if play on lower resolution

Thanks for the suggestion! Are there any i5/i7-5xxx series in the mkt alr?

Thanks for the input! However, he does use it to watch videos as well. I was thinking since 27" is sort of the ideal sweet spot for affordable 1440p, might as well just go for it haha.

Need WiFi?

Prob not. Most likely LAN-connection. :o

Oh yeah. To add on, I guess having longer warranty for my friend is better as well since he doesn't change until the hardware spoils.

Is it possible to set up a rig that has min 3yrs warranty covered on all parts? I know it is do-able for 2yrs on most major parts like motherboard and gfx.

1 Broadwell not released to consumers for some reason and performs equally to haswell nia.

2 But the videos are at 1440p in the first place ma? Aside from the korean brands, dont think 1440p monitors are cheap at all leh.

Do note that Broadwell chips are released to consumers. Just that local distros have decided not to bring in the Broadwell desktop chips in order not to lose money due to low demand locally and the availability of Skylake chips.

Sorry to hijack this thread...

May I ask... Is there any visible performance difference if match with:

i) 1 X Crucial DDR3-1600 CL11 8GB (Single-Sided)

ii) 2 X Crucial DDR3-1600 CL11 4GB (Dual Channel)

Thanks in advance..
