First off Merry Xmas and a happy new year guys! May you have a rocking festive season and a bountiful new year ahead.

I'm basically looking to build a Hackintosh cum windows gaming PC. I've been on OS X through 2 Macbook Pros since 2008 and would require the PC to be able to boot into OS X in the event that my current MBP dies (which it already did twice! damn Radeongate...)

Salient points about my build.

Listing the common questions to give you guys a better idea of what I need.

Budget: 1000 without O/S

Monitor: Planning to game on my old TV or just hoot a 1080 monitor (seperate funding).

Games: I usually play RPGs and such but recently finished Bioshock infinite and starting to feel the itch for some FPS

Other uses: run OS X. watch movies etc. nothing intensive

Overclock: Yes! At least I would like to experiment with it

Upgrade options: CPU and SLI in 1 to 2 years

This is the PCpartpicker build that I put together
Intel Pentium G3258, Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970, BitFenix Phenom M Nvidia Edition: Black - G3258 OC GTX 970 Build - Wwaagghh's Saved Part List - PCPartPicker

Basically the parts I selected should be ok for compatibility for a Hackintosh build and I'm aiming to game at highest settings for 1080. And if and when higher resolution gaming is affordable, throw in another 970 and upgrade to a Devil's canyon i5 or broadwell CPU.

I would love to hear any comments or advice!

Thanks

Unless u in us no point using that website to do ur build...pricing totally diff in SG

Ur mobo dun support sli, and I dun think Mac OS support sli as well.

And 1k dun bother about overclocking...

$1k

i5-4460 + Gigabyte b85m d3h ~ $345
Crucial 8gb ddr3 ~ $100
Plextor m6s 128gb ssd ~ $99
Leadtek gtx760 OC ~ $300
Superflower hx 600w ~ $99
CM n200 ~ $55

$1000 buy and DIY @ tradepac ask for discount.

Basically if u going Mac OS go for gigabyte board for better compatibility

Sorry to go off topic - what's wrong with hackintosh? why will it open the path for infractions?

If you purchase the OS legally from apple and build a hackintosh it's not piracy right?

Mac OS X is now free. If I'm not wrong Mac OS X is only legal when used with hardware from apple.

It's sort of illegal since Apple holds some [insert technical jargon] that prevents you from building a mac without it being a mac design or something.

But whatever lah hackintosh is awesome. Maybe they shouldn't be discussed so openly here but I own one

and yes, gigabyte boards are way to go.

tonymacx86 is a good place to start but their method has a lot stability issues. Their post installation is buggy all round and rough on the edges.

Clover on the other hand is a little complicated to set up and require patience, but it's extremely stable.

Evidence, I was running Tonymacx86 back in Mavericks and after I did a clean install of Yosemite with Clover, it became so much more stable and it's a lot more flexible once you learn to configure it properly!

Hmm thanks for the feed back. Was going to use tonymac86. Maybe I will check out clover as well. I love my Macs but having to replace the graphics card of my MBP twice in a year has pissed me off

thanks for the information. always thought that after building 1 from the guide, installation would be straightforward.

it's okay la i followed the tonymacx86 as well.

even if you are copying someone else's build with exact components just be prepared for troubleshooting because that's the way it is with hackintosh :s13:

if you're lucky the installation will be smooth, i had to troubleshoot on my own which was quite fun, the forum should have most of the answers.

anyway i still miss my macbook running snow leopard, it just isn't the same with lion and onwards. The graphics doesn't seem to be smooth anymore and the OS isn't as slick anymore.

It's straight forward, but just be prepared to deal with issues. I recommend you having a macbook next to you or having at leasta windows laptop with you to do some troubleshooting
