DIY PC opinion

Hi all usually a lurker but my old friend has finally died and I need to diy a new PC.

Hoping to get some opinions about this set up.

Budget: ~2k

I'm planning to play upcoming games like metro exodus and I use my pc to do CADing too.

No interest in OC-ing
Mainly using air cooling

CPU: intel i7-8700
Mobo: Asus ROG strix Z370-H
HDD: WD Black 3.5" 2TB
SSD: Samsung EVO 850 2.5" sata 500GB
WiFi: Asus PCE-AC55BT
RAM: Ripjaws V 2666 Mhz 2 x 4GB or 2x 8GB (can't decide)
PSU: EVGA GD 80+ 550W Gold
GPU: Asus strix GTX1060 6GB gaming
Chasis: CM mastercase 5

feel free to tell me if any parts I picked are dumb/overpriced/ totally not worth it

For GPU, don't get the low to mid-end GTX 1060... It will struggle with the games you've mentioned in near future.

Asus Strix 1060 is overpriced, not value for money.

For RAM, go with 16GB... which is a norm now. unless budget constraints

Total Damage : $2441

If you still wish to reduce the cost,

Go with AsRock Z370 Killer SLI/AC, add in i7-8700 for $676. Already has built in Wifi...

Will reduce to $2277...

Take Galax GTX 1070 for $619 instead,

Will reduce to $2216

Galax GTX 1070Ti seems fine but I wasn't sure about getting a 1070 since I'm only using a screen up to 1080.

I'll be taking your suggestions and will also be changing the PSU to Seasonic G 550W since its modular.

If CAD-ing is a primary activity done on your up-and-coming PC, may I suggest taking on an Ryzen 7 ideally, since a Ryzen has more threads (or pathways to help data pass thru n be processed). You can take advantage of the additional threads.

Pyscho's suggest is spot on, but I'd take it up a notch and say 16GB is a bare minimum for one who CADs.

Asus Strix 1060 is overpriced, not value for money.

Havent bought any Asus locally for a long time, prices simply not competitive from GFX card, mobo, router to monitor.

WD Black HDD is also super overrated and overpriced.

Only Asus PC component is the mobo I bought from Amazon during BF.. hahaha locally really just too expensive for peasant like me

GTX 1060 is already at 60fps or below for 1080p in newer games such as Assassin's Creed Origins and Shadow of Wars at High/Ultra settings...

It will struggle in very near future.

If you wish to future proof your PC a little bit, I suggest a faster GPU, at least 1070. If you don't mind just running games at lower graphic settings, GTX 1060 is fine for 1080p screens.
