DIY PC retailers?

Hello, I would like to get a custom PC done and I saw a few sellers on facebook like mansa, pckaki etc. It's very inconvenient to go down to sim lim to get it done with all the waiting and stuff so I'll probably be looking to deal with a seller - assembles and deliver.

PCKaki looks good so far so just looking for feedback or other recommendations for something similar?

Desired build is nothing fancy:

Nice build you got there! But I find pairing a locked CPU to a Z370 motherboard not really cost effective. Perhaps spending a little more and get i5 8600k or a ryzen build, like a Ryzen 5 1600 and a B350 motherboard. As a bonus you can still overclock the Ryzen 5.

U could consider aftershock if u just want to get a unit without worrying about anything

However, if u want to build one based on your needs, but need help assembly, can contact our dear bro here (singupingu) , he will be able to provide recommendations

More importantly, u should state the purpose of the unit u would like to “Build”

1. Gaming/video editing/office use
2. Budget
3. Monitor and refresh rate
4. Size (atx, matx, itx)
5. Type of games played (if it’s for gaming)
6. Do u need keyboard and mouse too
7. Do u need RGB

With this, more people will be able to advise u on which route u could consider going for and allow u to get the most bang for buck :)

PS: not affiliated to singupingu before anyone rages at me for recommending, just recommending someone who is reliable and would provide honest advice :) cheers!

Emm i5 8400 is the best price to performance cpu currently in sg even with the z370 motherboard at least for gaming only. The i5 8600k has HORRIBLE value as it has minimal performance difference when compared to i5 8400.

I would rather spend the extra 20-30 bucks more on top of i5 8600k pricing(after taking into account a cooler price) for an i7 8700 non k.

I5 8600k vs i5 8600k? Huh?

There is hardly any point in overclocking current Ryzen processors that makes Intel Core i5-8400 + Z370 attractive. :s22:

Hello, thanks for the input guys! Looks like I'll have to check singupingu out hahah.

For further details:
- Yes I'm building it for gaming, mainly got triggered because the evil within 2 is giving me crappy fps with my current rig, also its old.

- Budget preferably <1.6k because based on pcpartspicker it should only be ~1.4?

- ATX/mATX is fine with me. I do not need monitors nor keyboards, simply the cpu

- Looking to play mostly single player games such as prey, tomb raider, whatever's being released in the future.

- I do not need RGB, actually I would prefer no RGB.

- I don't do rendering or any graphic designing stuffs if that's applicable

i5 8600K is mainly about the ability to overclock, which Intel charges a premium. Having said that, it is said that the 6 core turbo may or may not hit 3.8 Ghz on the i5 8400 since Intel did not officially state the 6 core max turbo speed. If it does not, then it will fall behind the i5 8600K by a considerable margin since the base clock of both chips are 2.8Ghz and 3.6Ghz.

Ryzen chips top out at around 4 to 4.1 Ghz. But if you are getting say a Ryzen 5 1600 in about the same price range as the i5 8400, there is still overclocking headroom.

Interestingly, I noticed that 2 weeks before the launch of Coffee Lake, AMD slashed the price across its Ryzen chips, particularly the X version. After the launch of Coffee Lake, the prices seem to have gone up. I got my Ryzen 5 1600X for 200 USD (280 SGD charged to my credit card) then, and now it is back to about 240 USD.

PCpartpicker not very accurate for sg context. You might want to take a pricelist from SLS and calculate from there.

Think the point is missed. MF might be implying non-AVX frequencies of i5-8400 = 40, 39, 39, 39, 38, 38 guaranteed. No need to overclock.

Overclocking is not always better, depending on what the tradeoffs are and whether out-of-the-box performance of an alternate product can meet or exceed the former.
Ryzen's OC Mode flag = disable all limiters except thermal protection and negates the inherent efficiency of a stock Ryzen.

It is also worth mentioning at the current state of P state overclock:

Intel "P State OC"
-Automatically dialed p states
-Adaptive Mode (Including MSI and Asus Adaptive) = At stock frequency range, the vCore auto scales with the default VID baked into chip, no manual compensation.
-Beyond stock turbo multiplier table, it still has VID values to scale with, just a +/- offset + LLC to compensate for vdroop, you have a fairly clean semi-automated curve
(Stock freq decided by Intel, "extended freq" zone you determine)
-Can stack with speedshift..

AMD "P State OC"
-Manual/partial p states to calculate and input
-At least use AMD's Ryzen Balanced power plan otherwise it will not be fast enough to get out of cores parked state.

Intel's semi-auto P state is far easier for the end user to get right (their engineeer put those in already) than full manual. Like auto vs manual car.
But then again, its a pity in terms of consistency in acoustics on chips that are on aggressive speeds out of factory (i7s especially, if the kabylake experience is still true).
Those that ship with a stock VID in mid 1.2 <1.3V will more likely experience "fan ramp" more likely from non-optimal heat transfer on normal use.
(In addition, HT heats the chip even at idle)

If you're an acoustic nut + moderate user, you'll likely find a delid yielding very positive results (which is sad you have to "fix" the product) but I'm digressing.
i5-8400 at 65W TDP, No HT shouldn't be an issue on TIM.

Overall I think 1600X and 8400 both are designed to give the user a good out-of-the-box experience without tweaking too much. Depends on what you use it on, both have a place.

But at that price, why not go for the i7 8700 instead? For about 20-30 more, u get

1. 6 more threads
2. Garaunteed 4.6ghz single core speed and 4.2ghz all cores.
3. Less power draw

The 8600k has the ability to MAYBE hit 5ghz at the cost of crazy heat output and power draw. Furthermore it cant even compare to the the i7 for multitasking

And don’t forget TS initial build is with gtx 1060. Does he really need the greatest and fastest cpu i7 8700k paired with it? It may be more cost effective to get it performance wise, but as a whole system with the chosen gpu in mind, he is not taking advantage of the added performance. It’s better for him to save the money get the i5 and perhaps get a better gpu for example. That way he will get tangible benefits.
