Need advice for a photoshop rig. Been out of the DIY scene for some time now and have no idea which component plays a key role for Ps. Budget range from $1.6 to $1.8k.

Unlikely to include OS since have existing Win7 license, unless it's a big gain in performance (and UI convenience) to get Win8. Preference to include Dell U2414 or other similar class IPS monitors. For now no need to include wireless. Would very much prefer PC Themes-ish list pricing instead of Tradepac.

The smaller the casing, the better. The more budget buffer, the better. Thanks! :o

1) You want ITX, or M-ATX can already?

2) You mind Dell S series of monitors? Dell S2340L very cheap, $199 at PC Themes.

You intending to build from your existing rig. Or build a total new one from scratch.

Either one which can fit the budget will do. Now that you say it, an ITX may be better since I would just need to add the card instead of the entire kit if I bought mATX if need wireless in the future. Doubt so, since S-series are glossy and it affects Ps work

Prefer get everything from SLS since I is NSF. No more time to run here & there just to get diff parts

Buy, phuck off home & build :(

So, AMD GPU is best for Ps acceleration? Thought Ps benefited from some CUDA sh*t or something :s22:

If color is a concern get amd gpu. Definitely your color accuracy is still better and vibrant.

And i dont think you need to go till xeon. Wont benefit much either.

Avoid giga h97n wifi. Since ever h77n wifi the board placement of certain stuffs is too weird.

Xeon 1245v3 is basically a clone of 4770 leh. And you're saying the colour accuracy of AMD gpu will far outweigh the acceleration of an NV gpu?

So which board to get? MSI? Asus? Assbatu?

CPU+ Mobo: ASUS H81I-PLUS + i5 4690 (407)
RAM: 2X G.SKILL/KINGSTON PC 12800/1600MHZ DDR3 CL11 VALUE RAM (8GB) (200)
GPU: POWERCOLOR R9 280 3GB TURBODUO (285)
SSD: SAMSUNG EVO 250GB (179)
HDD: TOSHIBA 1TB 7200RPM (69)
DVD-RW: LG 24X DVD-RW SATA OEM (25)
PSU: SUPERFLOWER HX 600M (99)
Case: CM 120 (89)
Monitor: DELL U2414H (359)

Total cost: $1712

Buy at PC Themes, #04-15, and ask for discounts. DIY yourself. If you can't into DIY, get PC Themes to assemble for you for a fee.

Notes:

1) Unfortunately, Photoshop is known to be incapable of using hyperthreading effectively for increased performance and the benefits gained from getting an i7 for Photoshop is too small to justify the cost of an i7. Thus, the fastest i5, the i5 4690, is used instead.

2) Unfortunately, the Asus H81I Plus does not come with integrated wifi and only higher end motherboards will come with wifi and these motherboards are rather expensive. A USB wifi dongle would be much cheaper.

3) A Samsung Evo is used as the fast write/read speeds of the Samsung Evo is beneficial for speeding up Photoshop work by speeding up the opening and saving of large image files.

4) Newer versions of Photoshop now also benefit from OpenCL GPU acceleration on top of CUDA based GPU acceleration and thus AMD GPUs can now be used to render images in Photoshop for faster image processing. Thus, the R9 280 is included as it is a powerful GPU for its price and will also help in speeding up rendering in Photoshop.

5) Not sure how much HDD space do you need, do remember to upsize the HDD accordingly.
