DIY vs Aftershock

Was intending to DIY my computer but aftershock prices are really competitive

Seems like DIY only save $25? and difference seems to be gigabyte mobo vs asrock mobo & psu bronze vs gold
I have my own hdd/ssd so not included them in DIY build

Really leaning towards this aftershock pc because saving $25 only does not seem worth it to DIY.

only mobo and psu are different,

processor/gpu/ ram(more or less) same

Aftershock build is better no? RAM is better and GPU is slightly better.

SLS prices are always negotiable if you are getting most of the stuff from one store.

If looking to buy online, you can factor in vouchers and coupons from lazada/shopee/qoo10. I did this personally and split my purchases across 1010/1111/BFCM/1212 to maximise the coupons.

Nevertheless, if you are happy with the aftershock specs and price quoted, I don't see why you shouldn't get from them. Parts prices have increased due to COVID anyway

Cannot compared level 2 ready built model

not exactly fair comparison since Aftershock din specify clearly the brands for some parts (psu, ram, ssd). however, if u're not nitty gritty into the specifications, parts and warranty then can go with Aftershock. less of a hassle.

for myself, i'd prefer to know the brands henceforth the quality, reliability and warranty, prefers DIY any day.

Aftershock will generally cost more in any circumstances. If you are looking up DIY prices, you need to know where the bargains are in order to setup a system at a lower price.

What I would say is that there is no point trying to find differences between DIY or pre-built PC from say Aftershock. If you feel you are up to setting up and maintaining your own rig, then just go DIY. Otherwise if you think you are not up to the task of setting up your own rig, or have no knowledge/ time to maintain or troubleshoot it, then just go for Aftershock.

Personally I feel Aftershock PCs are generally decently priced vs the big brands like Acer, Asus, Lenovo, etc.

You can chat up with them to find out more. You can be sure they don't use iCute. Last I checked it was either FSP or EVGA PSU. You either need to look at the spec sheet or start customizing to see/ select the PSU.

How to compare?

RAM wise, my advise is to see how much it cost to get the higher capacity and faster ram when you customize. Sometimes the upgrade prices are decent, and sometimes a little too crazy. Strangely they charge the same upgrades differently for every model of desktop or laptop. Generally, the ram upgrades cost quite a fair bit, and better to be left at the most base amount and get your own outside. After all, it is not difficult to change RAMs.

This has been talked about time and time again. IF you buy everything from a single shop in SLS you can nego a little and the saving can be about $80-$100 but given the current situation pricing has been pushed up a little so this may not be the case anymore. If your going this route be prepared to do some research (previously would have been legwork to check whats in stock and confirm pricing) to find the best bang for buck at each of the shops.

IF you are able to DIY and like doing it I would ALWAYS take this option as you can really tweak the system to your needs. If you are not comfortable doing this then go the Aftershock route.

You can always wait until ** end and get 1 or 2 SLS shop to quote u the whole system and compare the price.

Like everyone say if you build all the parts from 1 shop, u will get a 50 - 100 discount.

Let me correct myself on that,.. the price difference between Aftershock and a DIY can be about $80-$100 discount NOT the price difference between whats on paper in the price list plus another $80-$100.

This is very subjective when comparing builds tho and sometimes the price can be a little more when u compare on paper and if u only get lower end system the discount could be even less.
