Hi Guys,
I just bought this DNS-323 for data backup purpose. Update firmware to 1.05
I connected DNS-323 direct to my PC with Cat 6 cable.
My PC network was set with jumbo frame at 9K, DNS-323 jumbo frame was set at 9K too.
However, I am having this VERY SLOW file transfer problem, I am trying to send a single file around 2GB to DNS-323 but, after 2 hours, the job is still running.
Can anyone advice what have I done wrongly? Appreciate any help:)

Try setting a smaller set for your jumbo packet. Maybe seven k and see if it helps. There is one article in small net builder that some onboard nic performs badly even when enabling jumbo frames. And also. Try to make sure your pc has only one ip address and connected to 323 only and not connected to other network.

Thank you for your information.
I will double check on my DNS-323 IP setup and I hope it not the Gateway address that is causing the problem because if I remembered correctly, IP address was different but Gateway address setting was the same as the Router Gateway setting.

i noticed that transfer rates seem to be affected by file type. certain types of files work better. samba performance related?

Hi,

Just one to check does anyone having the same problem.

I had mapped my drive letter to the 323. If i leave the 323 always ON and shut down my PC everyday, I am able to access the 323 via the mapped drive. But once I power OFF both (save electricity) and ON the PC and 323, I am unable to access the 323, I need to goto the configuration page->device and re-save the same settings and everything will work fine.

I had tried both static and DHCP IP and both XP and Vista, result still the same.

Anyone can help?

TIA

what do you mean you need to go to configuration page and re-save settings?

what kind of settings do you need to set every time you reboot your NAS?

Goto the NAS webpage, login as configuration, under "setup"-> "device" and re-save the device settings, such as workgroup, name and description.

Same problem as reported below:

http://wiki.dns323.info/information:known_issues

under section"Share not accessible after reboot".

Thanks.

Hi richneo,

Thank you again. It's help to move files quicker.
However, for UTP cable, should I used straight or cross over cable from PC direct to DNS-323?
Look like I need a unmanaged switch because I need to backup my notebook stuffs too.
If connect PC/Notebook -> switch -> DNS-323, any advice on the settings and cables?:)

if im not wrong, nowadays nic comes with mdix so using crossed or not is no matter

but if direct connection can use cross if going thru routers or switch can use straight

use straight. gigabit is all mdix.

even if you connect GE to FE, the GE will auto-detect

on another note, if you use the wrong cross cable on GE nic/switch, you'll only get 100mbps
