Any error message?

Itunes running and configured properly on your PC as well? You can type netstat -an via telnet or ssh console to see all the open ports opened on the dns-323, similarly your itunes on PC should be trying to connect to DNS-323 ip address via TCP through port 3689.

Or simply set your firewall to trust all communication within your local network or just that dns-323 ip address...

All ip address within the same network is set to trusted. iTune still can't find dns 323 itune server.

same here, i think its a Vista issue, i also keep having vista saying they need a driver to install dlink's network storage enclosure. in the end i just mapped it by running this on the the cmd line

\\192.168.0.*\Volumne_1

the explorer will launch the browser to that drive and u can map from there manually by rightclicking on the drive folder in explorer.

Upgrade the NAS to 1.04 will fix the problem.

yes, this is the cause. a couple pages back i posted the same thing. itunes not working for me. the itunes daemon cannot run. if you look in the proc directory there's a pid file for the daemon but it is not in the process tree. i think it encountered error during execution and terminated.

if you remove your drive and just boot the nas by itself, you'll notice that the daemon is alive. your itunes would be able to detect the nas. once you plug in your drive it fails. the only way i guess is to reformat the drive. i've noted that the itunes came back alive when i was playing with it initially. after i migrated all my data in and some other config the itunes died. and that was before i installed funplug.

1.04 is perhaps not too well tested?

hello

i juz follow the instruction, and the itune server works automatically....

Not sure why mine can't work. I'm using Bitdefender Internet Security 2008.

Following is the setting in the Bitdefender:
1. All internal IP address is set to Trusted.
2. Required ports in TCP and UDP is open.
3. iTunes is set to allow to use any port in TCP and UDP.

Setting in DNS323:
1. Volume1\Multimedia is the iTunes shared folder. MP3 is store in the MP3 folder within Volume1\Multimedia folder
2. No password is required.
3. DNS323 Lan login, user and password, is the same as my computer.

You know what's the cause of the problem?

Is it possible to use the the DNS-323 without formatting the drives, I bought it hoping to just use it as a file/ftp server and I have 2 hard disks full of data in there. But its prompting me to format the drives when i first log in :(

I am also using Ubuntu. How am i going to map my drives?

The mt-daapd is running, yet iTunes still can't locate it. What does it mean? Can explain and help?

From Xterm/GUI....:
Either use run command as in
smb://<<insert dns ip address>>/<<shared folder name>> ,
Also works for accessing windows machine's shared foler.

or

Browse via network and look for workgroup or whatever workgroup name given to the DNS.

From console....:
Use the smbclient command , google on how to use it.

How about the netstat -aen or netstat -l? Port 3689 is open?

Try browsing to http://<<dns ip>>:3689

Well, one more attempt... Try this (only works if you are not using DHCP)

Run ifconfig , You should see some network interface. Remember the first one, should be egiga0, if not, substitute with what's shown on your machine.

Then run ifconfig egiga0 promisc , this command will need to be re-run every reboot.

Ok. 3689 is open.
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:3689 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

Can access by browser but what's the password and user name? My User name and password can't access it.

Will try ifvonfig only is all attempt fail

You can remove promisc later too, ifconfig egiga0 -promisc

No ... no need to reboot , ifconfig egiga0 promisc should produce below. Which you need to test for iTunes server detection with promiscious mode.

egiga0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1C:F0:95:D9:27
inet addr:192.168.0.88 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

collisions:0 txqueuelen:512
RX bytes:73689 (71.9 KiB) TX bytes:59420 (58.0 KiB)
Interrupt:21

Only when you reboot, it will reset it back to without promiscious mode. Which is not what you need to do testing or if successful, require you to run ifconfig egiga0 promisc again.

Don't know already, either your firewall is blocking or your router is blocking...

Oh, the username should be admin and password is blank
