Depends on your company security policy, you might not even get back your added ssd or might breach it cuz of security seal

Yes, can get fired if breach in security. Also it depend if company has install any encryption software or win bit locker to protect hard disk from cloning.

So my company issued laptop for most staff due to wfh.
Dell inspiron series with 128gb nvme storage. Can i ownself add 2.5" secondary ssd without admin password? Actually i can bring the laptop to my IT guy if really need, just try not to bother him because he is super busy setting up the equipment for the new worksite.

Opening the bottom case is relatively easy, just remove few pcs of screw.

Intend to upgrade my personal pc ssd to nvme, so can salvage the 2.5" to my work laptop if possible. Just solely use it for storage drive.

U sure the laptop has 2.5 SATA slot?

End up i just add in a spare ram, no issue. Next time will bring to my it guy to install it after i purchase ssd.

My it guy told me many user nagging at him because the ssd + ram too little. Use zoom for vc , open powerpoint, whatsapp, and email also can out of memory/hang. Quite surprise 8gb ram not sufficient for the office usage apps.

Anyway, i'm not working in some high security place like gov sector/big mnc that don't allow copy data over usb, etc.

Actually it may be due to user want to store many personal files. Most company now move to store online or access information online to prevent staff clone company information after resign.
