Do u buy CPU cooler nowadays?

Alot of recommendations on PC built now never mentioned the need to buy CPU cooler, the stock cooler so good nowadays + CPU producing much less heat?

Only a few years ago CPU cooler was a hot topic. Mine still running on my trusty CM V8. Am wondering if I need to buy one when I built my replacement PC soon.

I've been reusing my gen 1 Scythe Ninja for a while now. If I can find the 775 mounting (essentially 775-socket to 478-heatsink adapter) I would get Asrock mobo with the C.C.O. feature and continue using it.

My CM V8 never come with the lga1155 mounting parts, so cant continue to use it. So any good recommendation for the replacement? Or just use the stock? Stock noisy?

Well my i5 3470 runs idle at 30-40 degrees at stock cooler so i dun think a cpu cooler is needed. Think at load also runs up to 50+ only. Will usually consider getting CPU cooler only if doing overclocking of the cpu though.

Last time my core 2 duo cpu works well with stock cooler for 5 years + and still going.

My CPU is undervolted and even then I made sure to get a cooler. This is because the less heat your CPU runs at the lesser power it uses.

My new Ivy Bridge system runs around 34-37 idle on a stock, goes dam noisy and peak at 66-75C when running Ghost Warrior 2, Bioshock Infinite. Strangely my older socket 775 runs it perfectly (high end graphics) and cpu goes up to 38C max running both games. Prob the gigantic cooler is good.

Well if u are using the stock coolers, i guess that will be the normal temp for a cpu full load. My cpu temp fluctuate between 55 ~ 68 degree during around 3~4 hrs of crysis 3 and that's using a aftermarket cooler.

Good to have better cooling to be honest. I don't mean getting super high end cooling solution, but something better than the stock cooler will be nice.

I don't overclock my CPU (x4 925) by much (mostly because I don't know how ) but I have replaced the stock cooler with a $50 air cooler. The main reason is that I can't stand the constant humming coming from the stock cooler, plus it is nicer to look at.

To get the mounting parts, perhaps can have a talk with Ban Leong? I think they probably have some for sale.

I immediately replaced the AMD stock cooler after using it the first time. The heat sink, with or with the heatpipes get quite noisy at load.

Interesting. Maybe my PC sits in a warmer environment, because I got 38-45 deg on my old Arctic 11LP, and now 31-39 with the Antec 620. CPU set to Asrock's auto power saving mode with undervolting

Not me. Using Intel G2020, no point buying a separate CPU cooler. The same applies for i3 CPU.

Intel CPUs are no longer like nuclear reactors back in 2003/4 (back then, stock CPU cooler was not enough to prevent thermal throttling at stock speeds. )

Agree. I have a secondary rig which uses i3 2100. Bought a Arctic Cooling Freezer 11 LP on impulse for $20, and I see no significant difference in temp before and after installation..
