if so, does tt mean ur wifi needs to be on 24/7?
Your wifi is turned off at certain times of the day?

I suppose it could be possible if your protocol is not dependent on wifi signals bah?

ZigBee 3.0, z wave and Matter (over Thread routing) should be independent - they use radiowaves but not the 2.4ghz and 5ghz/6ghz protocols in wifi standards. ZigBee is 2.4ghz but handshake is totally different. Your IoT devices should still be able to communicate with each other and automations should still run.

You have a SmartThings Hub V3 ?

IHost Hub?

Tuya/MOES hub?

I don't think it is a straight forward binary answer since it depends on your use case and the devices you are running.

How smart do you want your home to be? Maybe if you can tell us your use cases, helpful members can chime in

Off wifi?! Blasphemy!

Btw cell towers transmit with much greater energy than wifi. Ditto the portable transmitters in your homes.
Please remember to turn those off if radiation is your concern.

Also a sideeffect of turning off wifi radios is that all your wifi enabled items will start beaconing at high power in their quest for a new gateway.

One more less obvious thing.

Your portable transmitters will happily put their cell radios into low power mode if they have a wifi connection. If they lose that wifi connection, they put those powerful cell radios into high power mode to maintain connectivity.

RF engineering is not a PhD subject matter for nothing.

433 and 868 Mhz is common because long wavelengths go farther. Important for beacons in IOT kit.

Thought members here are tech savvy... Still talking about 50 years ago orthodox mindset of turning off WiFi? Please don't.

People realize it is no longer a gimmick when they get old.
When you can set a room for your lifestyle needs at a push of a button, it really takes strain off arthritic joints.

I forgot to mention BLE devices also for smart homes automations. SwitchBot have some nifty devices.

In any case, if you have a real heterogeneous IoT network at home, I would recommend HAOS to pull everything together but that would bring you down the rabbit hole.
