Do you over invest part of your salary that you feel tight cash flow month to month?

Eg you could have monies in SSB, brokerage accounts, cash in UOB HYSA but only small amount for your "free float" for your day to day expenses. You can afford to spend a bit more if you cut back your monthly (DCA) investment amount

How you find the balance?

Do you still invest as a retiree? Is it from your leftover from dividends and rental income?

You got like daytime stare at SGX/HKSE, then nighttime stare at NYSE one? Got like that? Since you have all the time in the world. :o

I only put around 10% into real 'investment' or should I say, risky plays like funds and whatnot.

around 50% are in fixed deposits/bonds. these are risk-free (or almost risk-free) parking lots. T-bills, SSB, SGS, to name the common ones.

and then around 20% to 25% cash (but still a significant portion is 'tied' to accounts like UOB One, DBS Multiplier, etc.

true liquid cash? only around 3 months my salary. but if really need to activate emergency, then the 20 - 25% cash can come into hand quickly.

'm just not so much into equities and those free-market plays.

the older one gets, the less the inclination to go into risky opportunities.

My question do you spend as if you have only that 3 months of salary or take into account of your entire assets

I consider myself over invest. I only have $500+ in my POSB passbook acct for giro and to keep above min bal. I will invest the remaining salary in mari invest (mmf). Mari invest has instant withdrawal so I am not worried.

Even liquid assets you may also feel pressured since you are unlikely to liquidate unless extreme situation

2008-2009 GFC was the only time I was all in and ran out of cash. It was the only time I had to use my CPF-SA to buy unit trust because I literally had no cash and no CPF-OA left to invest.

Currently, I have the opposite problem of too much cash & cash equivalents because markets seem expensive, and my habit is to grow my warchest and wait for next sale.

I guess you have no debt in order to ask this question.

After I clear my home loan, then this question may applies to me.

GFC was a still a pretty scary time. I not brave enough to get into debt to buy stocks.

But immediately after the GFC, I bought took loan at low 0.98%+SOR interest rate no lock in and bought my current condo, so I did take advantage of leverage during that time. Buy property no need bravery, because Singapore buy property sure huat.

I don't feel rich nor feel I can spend freely despite my assets. I think it's probably due to limit "free" cash

On months when my bills exceed my free cash I do feel a bit stressed although I can always draw on my uob one account and sacrifice some interest

I dun feel pressure using my own cash or assets. Yes, I have been monitoring my income-expense so I unlikely to be short of cash.

My spouse working so she can feed herself. As for my dotters if I count wrongly I ask spouse to help feed first like their school fees and allowance. Then my monies come in I payback. For couples whose spouse not working and no income tough indeed. Best don't get married and no children and hope parents can feed themselves.

GFC my dotters still infant and scare of retrenched or they cannot make it as body immunity system weak for young infants. No time invest so regularly as all monies into pay house loan and feed alive 2 infants.
