This is a short video on rain water harvesting. In Singapore, there are laws governing this so for landed properties, if you need it, you can apply for the necessary stuffs, watering garden can be just off rainwater if you not using for consumption.
Water not necessary must be tank stored. Construction using aqua blocks which is buried into the land is also an available technology, each rain harvesting system are not created equal, they are custom and tailored to users.

Actually the filtering barrel quite neat, sediment sinks to the bottom whilst only the top layer water which is clean is being harvested.
