My Point

Unnecessary ERP gantry

BEFORE the opening of the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE), the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) gantry along Maxwell Road, in front of Asia Square Tower 2, was meant to target vehicles travelling from the Ayer Rajah Expressway to the Marina Bay area.

After the opening of the MCE and the closure of a section of the East Coast Parkway between Marina Boulevard and Prince Edward Road, the only vehicles using this one-way road going to the Marina Bay area are those from Anson Road, Chinatown and Shenton Way, which are already inside the Central Business District.

Logically, this ERP gantry should cease operations after the road network has changed following the opening of the MCE.

Motorists using this road are being penalised unfairly as there are other routes to the Marina Bay area without having to pass an ERP gantry.

If this ERP gantry is indeed found to be unnecessary, those motorists who have been charged ERP fees since Dec 30 last year should get refunds.

Adjust ERP rate on ECP

WITH the opening of the Marina Coastal Expressway, traffic flow on the East Coast Parkway (ECP) has eased considerably.

I was travelling on the ECP towards Rochor last Friday morning and the expressway was quite deserted. At the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) gantry, $6 was deducted from my CashCard.

Can the Land Transport Authority consider adjusting the ERP rates for peak-hour traffic on the ECP?

Smoky foreign vehicles

I HAVE observed a growing number of foreign-registered trucks from across the Causeway plying our roads while emitting black smoke from their exhaust pipes.

The Land Transport Authority regularly conducts strict checks on all local motor vehicles, but does it have the authority to do the same for foreign-registered trucks?

Can it conduct visual checks at the checkpoints for vehicles causing pollution?

If foreign-registered trucks do not need to adhere to our strict emission standards, Singaporeans' health will suffer.

Drive through MCE towards Keppel this morning again around 8:45 am .

There are no traffic and everyone driving at 80kmph . What the point having MCE if no one using it by charging SGD6 ? All city / westbound traffic forced to go through CBD area to avoid MCE ERP ... I wonder who make this kind of decision .....:s11:

Built Singapore most expensive expressway just for people who can pay $6 ERP and meanwhile jam at Shenton Way and Mr Teo say he is very happy to see MCE smooth flowing. Are they thick or what? :s13:

Isnt it the purpose of ERP? Channel congestion so revenue can be made? So Shenton way jam? ERP coming up soon.

I think LTA should provide alternative route instead of forcing commuter to use the most expensive route ....

I miss the ECP Rochor exit ... SGD0.50 only ..

will there be multiple deduction errors ?

U can claim back $$$ for multiple deduction errors, but for the $6 per-pass MCE charge, this one is fixed and non negotiable.
Electronic ERP has been on for at least 10 plus years now, if multiple (duplicate) deduction errors were so frequent, many will be up in arms... Issue is what should he optimal charge per-pass at specific gantries be, or perhaps the larger question should be how public transport and bicycle transport can be improved, so that people do not have to be so dependent on cars (usually waste petrol and road space because many empty seats) - yet live productively together despite a lesser dependence on pte cars (maybe cycling will improve health so that people can live longer and healthier (and less stressed overall) without GDP having to go up-up-up) if only they could safely cycle to and from work etc (must provide clean up facilities of course).

You mean alternative or viable alternative? From east to west can always go TPE/SLE/KJE.

Is there any incentive for them to do viable alternative?

Haha no wonder MSM reported that traffic on MCE has been "very smooth" nowadays.. Not because it's well designed but because not many motorists are willing to pay (a whopping) $6 to use it!!!
