Hi there!

I'm a prospective ntu student (still considering whether I should appeal to nus/ smu.) I just got accepted into ntu sociology but upon reading the other forums, I'm getting a bit scared T.T.

Many people seem to have the idea that in Singapore, a sociology degree isn't really that competitive, especially in the private sector. So, I would to seek the advice of any senior here. I'm planning on taking a double major or minor in comm studies. Which is more worthwhile to take? Another major or a minor?

Planning on going into either journalism or the public sector upon graduation.

Any advice would be extremely helpful! Thank you :)

For the communications industry, doesn't really matter double major or minor or even neither. In fact, what counts for more would be your portfolio + experience.

Portfolio
- take journalism modules with a higher % of practical work (some modules are more theoretical)
- write for school/club newsletter/website etc
- volunteer your writing skills to non-profits (eg. http://www.creativesforcauses.com/#!volunteer/c8k2)

Experience
- start finding freelance/temp/part-time/contract/internship opportunities.
- try http://internsg.com/ or https://www.facebook.com/groups/119326031532307/

For public sector, doesn't matter double major or minor, most important would be to get good honours, first class would be the best!

Hi!
Will probably only take up the double major/ minor if I'm really interested then! Thanks so much for the advice :)
