Let me tell you something. You're barking up the wrong tree.
I dunno if you're a minority, but I sure am. And I have grown up here and lived much longer than you.
You must understand what actually is racism and what is a racist. And what are racist remarks.
There's a difference. A racist you will almost never succeed in changing them until they experience positive racism themselves. That is they finally encounter the race they hate and actually end up better for it
Racism is a policy based on solely on your race.
Racist remarks are just remarks. But it does mean that everyone uttering racist remarks are racists.
This is the thing about humans, we compartmentalize stuff. Race is the most common factor. It's everywhere. You don't see someone saying guy A or B. Oh that Chinese man, that Malay man etc. It's a thing that inculcated in us from a young age, whatever country.
I have experienced all 3. But let me tell you Singapore isn't that bad. Racism is not overt.
Of course I've been a victim of subtle racism, heck even the Govt practises it. Why are HDB flats based on a race a ratio? Why Malays or so many years could not serve in the AF? Why promotions in the Civil service, how many minorities get to the top? Of course they do, but there's a limit and it evolves. It's subtle.
So when you got reporting racist remarks and the other guy going around making reports. Well that's your right. But as a minority I've experienced many things and as such I allow many things to be, so long it doesn't get out of hand or affect me.
The first 2, we must not tolerate. The 3rd let it slide once in a while. If you wanna take offense everything can be seen as offensive.
This **** thing, you should look at the bigger picture. It's message for the Govt. As I told someone here and many friends. In a way it's good, that's why I remain relatively silent on it. For years we Malays and Indians were suffering, all our lower paying jobs, what happened to them? Once the Govt opened the floodgates, all goes tot he Pinoys, the Ah Tiongs, Burmese and what have you. Our salaries depressed.
Eg in the 1990s, $5/h was common and by 2003 or so, it progressed to 7-8 bucks maybe more for jobs like waiters, servers and what have you. Then they opened the floodgates initially. Today its' still around 5 bucks an hour - over 20 years still stuck.
Vut what did the majority race do? They didn't complain much. Got lah but how many? Because it didn't affect them. But now with the **** treaty, who does it affect? The Chinese of course. The PMET jobs, mid-management and others who were holding these jobs before? The Chinese of course. Sure got Malays and Indians too but we were always a tiny fraction.
Only now the Chinese majority realise that their jobs are under threat. So now you see an outpouring. So I say look at the bigger picture.
I already knew back in 2003 I was actually talking to an Indian who migrated here. I said this is a vote winner. because who will you vote for?
But people were blind to it. Only know they awoken. So all this anti-**** thing look at the bigger picture. It's to send a message that our immigration policy is wrong.
So don't go mistake every racist comment as meaning the person is racist. The majority are not. How well do you get on with other races. I get on just fine. So do many of our generation. We have also been subjected to some subtle racism in our lives and even today it exists. It always will you cannot change human nature. The idea is that it's not so serious that it leaves with no other options.
By all means report any company or person who discriminates based on race. But are there not other jobs and other avenues still open and not that hard to find? If these don't have then that becomes a major issue.
But if it doesn't just get on with life.
As for the foreigners coming here, if I have to engage with them I of course will with all the courtesy that goes with it. In fact many are polite. But some who are yayaya papaya, these I don't tolerate and neither should anyone else IMO.
I know you are angry because I've always got the better of you and brushed you off. You wanna keep reporting by all means go ahead. It's free. But you're barking up the wrong tree IMO. I'm a reactionary not a revolutionary. I respond in kind to people who started it off. Anyway calling somebody dumb, if that were an offence, they'll be no end to it. How many people have called me dumb, so what? Wanna report them? for what? Better to reply there and then and let the matter rest.
I can so easily take offence to every single **** post or anti-Indian one. Rather I'm more concerned where it takes a sinister turn and encroaches into legal peril. If they had posted something that breaks a law, then that I have to react to.
That's what i advise you to consider. It should be a criminal thing. That carries weight. But don't take everything literally, in Law there must also be the 'ingredients' or crossing the boundary to make the charge.
Excessive reporting diminishes your reports. I dunno what the other guy is trying to prove. But it certainly isn't working. He's taking offense with every single thing. But it's not my job to teach him. It's entirely up to him.
So long as i follow the boundaries and stay within the Law that's all that matters as far as I'm concerned.
