Downloading from VPS Hosting

I got a VPS hosting(Seedbox). FTP access is using Secure tunnel. I have large files 2GB-4GB sometimes directories with multiple small files.

If I use FTP, I can simply copy the directories so all files in the directories copied to my local computer. Copying seems slow. Since I have a web server running cam I move the files(Large files) to public space and download using http? will it be faster?

For directories with multiple files what is the best way to download faster?
