Dropbox consuming lots if HDD space!

Am using Dropbox and my mbp keep prompting me that I'm running low on diskspace when there's actually not much data in my HDD.

Anyone facing this issue? I thought Dropbox supposed to be cloud storage and will not affect physical HDD storage?

U installed dropbox on yr PC, surely it will take up space ma. U uninstall the app lo.

Yes, although Dropbox is a cloud-based storage, the application automatically synchronizes (sync) all the files on your account by downloading all your files from Dropbox to your hard disk.

You can choose not to sync the files that you feel that you do not need on your MacBook Pro (e.g. high resolution photographs). This can be achieved by doing the following:

1. Click on the Dropbox icon from the menu bar.
2. Click on the gear icon and select Preferences... from the menu.
3. Click the Account tab. (Dropbox for Business users: If you have connected your personal and work Dropboxes, you'll also need to select the Dropbox for which you want to change settings at the top of the tab.)
4. Click the Change Settings... button.

A window will appear with a list of all the top level folders in your Dropbox folder. The folders with a check next to them will be synced to your computer. Uncheck any folders that you don't need to sync to your computer's hard drive. Any folders you deselected will be removed from your hard drive, but will still be available through the website and on any computers linked to your Dropbox account.

If you run bootcamp windows (with dropbox), it's double the HDD space needed. If you run VM or parallel, make sure you set up to share the dropbox folder in OSX else it's double usage again.

To see your dropbox usage, right click dropbox icon on menubar and setting (gear icon). The usage should tally with Finder -> get info. And yes, dropbox consume physical disk space.

Dropbox main feature is synchronisation of documents across all ur devices. Storage is a sub feature

I always do selective sync, only sync the folders you need for work and not everything (e.g. stuff you're just storing like photographs, videos, etc).

Could it be that your dropbox's space is low?
