I am on 500Mbps Starhub Fibre and dropbox upload (for new files or modified files) are extremely slow. It seems that uploads are trickling e.g. few files uploaded and stops for few hours.

I checked the setting within dropbox app and no limit on upload. If I use VPN to US, I'd get 2.x MB/s which is expected.

Is there any known throttling to dropbox servers or any fixes? I tried calling Starhub 1633 and the support blamed it of WiFi (even i told him, speedtest works fast, via VPN works fast, etc). I hope there was a better response but it is a clueless response :(

It’s because Dropbox’s storage servers are on Amazon S3 at Ashburn USA, so speed will vary greatly depending on routing.

Sadly Dropbox has not set up any storage cache/frontend here in Singapore :C

While I understand there is no local cache/CDN here, the speed should not be ridiculously low to the point not syncing well. If my VPN to US can yield 2MB dropbox upload sync, the direct link to US should be even faster. I felt something is amiss. Definitely, not my computer or client as this is happening in the past few months in multiple PCs.

Thanks for replying.

Thats because not all routes are equal to any server in the world. Obviously your VPN's route to dropbox is better than Starfug's one.

Bump for this.

There is definitely something wrong with SH and Dropbox

I am on SH Fiber 300Mbps and Dropbox Syncing is damn slow. No problem with ST Fiber 300Mbps

And yes I got both SH and ST Fiber at home, both at 300Mbps.

Plus the super annoying thing about dropbox is when someone shares something with you it is double counted in both your quotas, doesn't make any sense at all.
