I am curious. How did they get the reaction time? I remember a scene from the movie on captain sully on the landing on the Hudson River.
In the movie, pilots on simulator could land the plane safely at the airport.. then it was found the pilots did 17 practice runs before the successful one which was shown as demonstration.
It is easy to say in hindsight this person will dash out here cos you already know this will happen. But at the time when you were driving, this might just be someone standing at road side.
Reaction time is also complicated. If you were focussed on the man, yes maybe you could have stopped. But this focus would mean you are not looking elsewhere.
