DSLR for beginner: Nikon D5500

Hi all!

In view of the closure sales at Funan, i'm planning to pick up my first camera. I'm looking at the Nikon D5500, 18-140mm kit.

Do you all think this is a good DSLR to start off?

depends on your budget and usage.
If you have budget, I would recommend D7200.
Do you shoot in low light situations? if you have budget, I would recommend D500.

For your budget, I would recommend Nikon D5500.
For casual videos, I would recommend Canon 750D if you have no preference over Nikon.

I see thanks! I'm more inclined to take the Nikon D5500 because it has an electronic viewfinder, whereas the Canon 750D does not (if im not wrong).

It's worthed to spend abit more to get the 18-140mm instead of the 18-55mm right?

Both Nikon and Canon models does not have electronic viewfinder.
If you want electronic viewfinder, you may want to consider Sony.
For Canon, you can get the 18-135mm if you need reach at the far end.

For the sake of convenience, a bump in sharpness and a longer focal length range, yes it is worth. What you'll lose out in is in cost and weight. The 18-140mm weights 300G more than the 18-55mm.

D5500 has no EVF.

Do note that unlike clothes and apparels, you can bet your last penny is that there won't be any 'moving out' sales for DSLRs.

Oh I think i wasn't referring to the EVF. I was referring to the part where, instead of peeking through the hole when taking a picture, you can use the LCD screen to see the image instead. Thats call LCD viewfinder or smth right?

I have been looking at the Sony a6000 too. Anyone knows what the price and how is it compared to the Nikon D5500?
