Dual Channel + 1

Sorry if this question has been asked but I tried searching through the forums but cant find any answer.

I currently run a 2 x 4 gb rams in dual channel on a b85 mother board. I have a spare stick of 8gb lying around and was wondering if I can just pop it in. Does it affect the dual cahnnel capabilities? (I have no idea what is dual channel actually. I just read it on the manual)

it will no longer run in dual channel. No dual channel doesnt really affect real world performance
