Understand the logic of getting a ram kit. A pair of similar ram modules packaged together for optimal performance.
But what if I buy Ram A single stick, then Ram B (similar brand with same size, speed,...etc) at a later date,

Will dual channel still works?

It will just work.

The difference is just that when you buy a pair of ram sticks. This is guaranteed by the manufacturer that this 2 sticks will run at the rated speed and run normally. In an event that 1 stick fails. You have to RMA both sticks together.

If you buy it as a single stick but everything same specs down to the timing and frequency. It will still work. Just no guarantee from the manufacturer that it will run as per "normal". If one stick fails, you need to pinpoint which stick is faulty and replace the affected stick.

So in both cases there are pros and cons.

But in normal circumstances. It rarely will break or go wrong in either cases. Intel xmp, AMD expo will just detect it and run accordingly.
