With the opening of the Google Online Store based in SG, we can now buy the Pixel 2 XL directly from Google. But the cost ($1,379) is waaaay higher than some of the mobile retailers here like KasiaMobile, MobileSquare etc. (around $1,200) who offer 2 years LG local warranty as well.

Is there any difference between buying from the various parties or is there literally no benefit from buying straight from Google?

No difference, just like Samsung or even those those major retailers like Courts, they always price their sets at Recommended Retail Price.

The warranty may have been activated earlier. Mobilesquare usually sells sign line sets, so while phone is new, chances of activation are also higher.

also when buying from non-telco shops, must ask for those box that are factory sealed.

No differences as all are the same product from the manufacturer.

Warranty start from the day you make the purchase, hence keep the receipt as official document.

Retail price is set by Manufacturer and most big name Retailers follow the retail price as set.

For those Sellers that sell lower than the Retail price are that they get their supplies from Suppliers.
These Suppliers do have huge discount offer as rebate when they buy in large quantity.
Hence the cost is passed down to Sellers and thereby lower the final selling price.
Suppliers usually do not have high overhead and so passed the saving down to sellers.

No issues with buying from retail but I remember they made me open my phone in the shop. If you are getting it as a gift might want to take note

if you buy from telco, can let them know that you don't want to open it. can be done but they will tell you that you cannot change if there is any problem and have to goto service centre.

Starhub told me must open, unless you opt for delivery then it will be sealed.
