All the experts have never expected Trump will make hell loose since globalisation has taken place 40-50 years ago. That's why all of them are panicking now. For example, China has been making billions from the US since it entered into WTO. With trillions of profit, China used the money to advance their military to rival with the US. Now they are almost on par with the US. As such, US felt threatened now.
If one has studied China dynasty history, you will see any officials regardless of ranks who tries or threatens the emperor will be executed.

but even unleashing tariffs on every single nation except Russia and it's allies (basically the belligerents on the ukr war) was a step too far and honestly makes the conspiracy theory about him being a Russian asset gain even more traction because they are now claiming Russia is not included because they discussing peace treaty, but Ukraine is in the list..

what this does is it isolates America and simply just discourages the world from trading with them, leaving only the Russians and it's allies unaffected by the tariffs to trade thereby enriching Russia and it's allies at the expense of America

but I might be blowing hot air cos it seems there are exemptions to the tariffs which signals these are the key materials/goods trump views as essential and it's not arbitrarily placed, the thing to do for the rest of the world to do is then to place their own tariffs on these items to see how he reacts
