Lately, my PC will at time not boot up or do a POST.
The fans on the CPU, video card and case are spinning. The 2 harddisks also received power. The system just refused to boot.

I have tried swapping with another power supply and video card also swap the RAMs and reseated all cards.

Is my motherboard or CPU dying?

Have you tried clearing cmos? Like removing the cmos battery and put back?

Have you tried post only with ram and cpu + board?

Yes. I tried those methods. No luck. :(

Perhaps I try to leave the battery out of the board for a longer period of time to test again.

I had similar issue with my old rig, i5 2500k+msi z68 board. Substitute ALL parts except CPU and still had the same problem. FInally I bought a lower-end i3 CPU and found that my i5 2500K is the problem.

For me, it was probably due to my overclocking the i5 2500k for about less than a year. I can't be 100% sure because I've been overclocking cpus since intel 486DX cpu of the '80s.

My another rig, an AMD setup, had a faulty graphics card causing the similar issue.

I don't overclock. Everything just running in stock setting.

The problem usually occurs when I need to restart the system.

Most times I have to power off the PC for a while before it will POST and boot normally again.:s11:

Normally for time based faults I suspect capacitors. So everything with capacitors. Includes PSU, mobo, gpu

But with ASRock mobo I now also suspect corrupted BIOS.

See if your board have those trouble shooting LED.

anything that you may want to try is take a vacuum and carefully remove all the parts and clean them before putting them back. sometimes those dust does cause this kind of problem.

Will solid capacitors bloat when they are failing? I did a visual check of all the capacitors on the motherboard yesterday and they look normal. Any way to check for dying solid capacitors?

There is a LED on the board but that is for showing the CPU power phase during power up.
Too bad, no casing speakers so can't hear any error beeps from the motherboard.

I cleaned up the PC yesterday while troubleshooting. =:p
