Many low IQ BBFAs think Johor = JB :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

If it happened in JB, I think SG would suffer worse given we have more high rise :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

The two earth quake yesterday are all in the light brown belt.

Earth quake knows no international boundary. So chance of at least the western half of Singapore getting it, is have one.

Help you all draw line.

Urging people to remain calm after the quake on Aug 24, geologist Abd Rasid Jaapar noted that earthquakes in Malaysia are far less intense compared with those in Japan and Indonesia, which lie along the Pacific Ring of Fire - an area responsible for 90 per cent of the world's earthquakes and home to 75 per cent of its volcanoes.

"However, it is timely for the government to incorporate a disaster risk management programme in the school curriculum to educate people from a young age," Mr Rasid, president of the volunteer-run National Association for GeoDisaster and Community Resilience Malaysia, told ST.

Segamat eatery owner Zulbahrin Mohamed, 60, said the quake hit while he was busying cooking for the breakfast crowd at 6.30am.

"Thank God, business went on as usual. No one had to take shelter outside. But the tremors were over in the blink of an eye. It didn't occur to me what was happening," he told ST.

Malaysia sits outside the Pacific Ring of Fire, meaning catastrophic quakes are unlikely. But its proximity to Sumatra, combined with dormant local fault lines, means tremors are not impossible.

The Aug 24 incident was a reminder that even in a country not known for earthquakes, preparedness and resilient infrastructure matter.

All public infrastructure in Johor, including roads, bridges, and dams, has been reported to be stable and unaffected following a minor 4.1-magnitude earthquake in Segamat yesterday morning.

State Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure, and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said that the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) had carried out initial monitoring within a five-kilometre radius from the reported epicentre.

“Preliminary checks were carried out on roads and bridges, while inspections were done on 47 bridges on state roads, 14 bridges, and 19 overhead pedestrian crossings on federal roads.

“Three major dams, the Bekak Dam in Segamat, the Sembrong Dam in Batu Pahat, and the Macap Dam in Kluang, have also been confirmed safe,” he said in a statement today.

He stated that Johor JKR will continue to conduct inspections and monitoring on all bridges, overhead pedestrian crossings, and roads within the affected area, adding that Johor JPS will ensure that the dams remain safe and stable.

“Should there be any impact or structural damage, immediate action will be taken by the authorities,” he added.

Yesterday, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) confirmed that a minor earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale was detected at 6.13 am in Segamat, followed by a second mild tremor with a magnitude of 2.8 in Yong Peng, about 28 kilometres northwest of Kluang.
