Google's ebook prices are way too high.

Take a copy of Tolstoy's War and Peace (same penguin edition, same cover). Amazon sells it at usd0.99, but google sells it at sgd7.12! That's a huge price discrepancy. What is Google thinking?

It's really not Google's fault. The price is whatever the publisher prices it at.

I just released a book I helped to publish on Google Play. The price was what the publisher wants, a very low price.

The other thing to note is Amazon often makes a loss on Kindle books, for business reasons. (as in they sell more cheaply than what they pay the distributors.)

For War and Peace, it's out of copyright. So you can actually publish your own version and pocket the money, whether you want to sell at $0.99 or $10.

Google generally priced their ebooks much higher than either Amazon and kobobooks. There's no point looking at Google's ebook store when doing price comparison before buying.

Just use Amazon or Kobo, at least for now.
