Hi guys, I just enlisted into NS on 26th Oct. I actually have seborrheic dermatitis affecting my scalp, mainly my sideburns, forehead, back of both ears, surface of my ears and an area at the back of my head. I am currently Pes BP and I am afraid the condition may spread to the rest of my scalp as when I sweat, the affected areas start itching quite bad. The MO has already ooc'ed me from BMT but I am afraid that I may have to recourse again with the same condition affecting me (And ooc'ing again). I have a specialist appointment coming up in December, what should I tell the specialist? Could anyone also tell me how the medical review thing works for skin conditions? Thank you!

Hello, I saw your post and just felt the need to reply.

I am in the same predicament as you. I am 33 as well and was diagnosed with Eczema since Apr'18. This half a year has been a roller coaster ride of ups and down. Like you, I started off with seeing my GP and to NSC, but will always see a relapse whenever I stop the steroids application no matter how hard I tried to stop. This cyclical process is very disheartening and I quickly recognized that using steroids to solve this is not the solution. I mean let's think about it. Our immune system is supposed to help us fight "bad stuff" and using steroids to suppress the immune system to prevent flares as a solution or management approach to eczema... doesn't really make much long term sense to me from a layman's point of view.

Whenever I visited my doctors and asked about the dangers of using topical steroids long term, I always received very assuring answers that it was safe even when I cited many cases of TSW online. I do not blame the doctors. I believe they have my best interests at heart and is only advising me with what they think is the best solution. TSW is not "clinically proven" and thus is not "accepted or mainstream" in the world of western medicine yet. It is understandable why doctors may not accept this concept.

Anyway, the turning point came when I decided to go on a cold turkey from steroids no matter what happens and told myself that I had to sustain it for 2 weeks before seeking alternative solutions. I manage to do it with the help of going on a liquid diet to rest the gut and also with the help of topical creams (Eucerin Eczema control or something and Puriya Mother of all Creams. Search it up!). 2 weeks later, the affected areas were all red but no longer bumpy / weeping. Psychologically, it was a very big step for me even though it may sound short.

The next step I took was to visit TCM doctor in Telok Blangah (quite obvious who is he/she, I don't want to look like i'm advertising. Remaining neutral) and did everything I was asked to. I've been undergoing treatment for almost 1.5 months now and my condition has significantly improved. I am not healed, it is not magic. Almost alternate week, I would see my skin recover almost 80-90%, only to flare up again in the next week. But every flare episodes seems to be less aggressive than the last, and I try to see it this as a good sign. Some positive mindset goes a long way in this fight...

If I am to say what really helped me, I would say is the change in diet. This process also is a wake up call for me to recognize that there are so many unhealthy options around us. If the change of diet has such a profound impact on my skin, imagine what adverse effects can long term consumption of these unhealthy options bring about? Wouldn't Eczema only serve as alarm bells, which could easily evolve to some other more dangerous conditions? This is not gospel truth, it is just what worked for me and I hope it works for somebody out there. Eczema is not fun at all and I hope any of these methods can bring relief to anyone out here.

I wrote this, not to demonstrate how this condition is to be handled. I am not 100% healed despite the vast improvements and am definitely not in a position to guide anyone. I still suffer from sleepless nights almost every night because of the itch (nights are the worst!!) and not to mention the despair in those nights. I really hope this can serve as an encouragement to all suffering from Eczema. In those lonely nights when you're awake because of the itch, remember there are many out there fighting this. You are not alone. One day you will find what works for you and see the light at the end of the tunnel. Don't give up and hope you will get well soon!

Fighting on...
Just curious, how much have you spend on tcm til date

My husband is 36 years old and suffer from eczema and asthma since NS days. 90% of his medical fees are steroid pills and cream. There are days I will have to change bed sheets every 3 to 4 days as there are blood stain from scratching. 4 years ago we renovated our house and install alkaline water system, miraculously his skin issues stopped. I am not sure the alkaline water help but I did read somewhere there are also people's skin problem improved after drinking alkaline water.

bump. anyone?

All along i've had sensitive skin but it flared up very badly about end 2017 thats when i visited NSC and was prescribed a round steroid cream and antibiotics..
initially the seroid cream worked like a charm but when off it, it would relapse much worse.

Second visit to NSC around start of 2018, i was given oral & cream steroids..
Again, it worked excellently and i was clean all the way till July where my joint areas started showing signs of red/swelling. Take note, all these time I have been applying moisteruiser.
However I didnt think much of it.. not untill August/Sep (now),
- 80% of my body has red dots /rashes (even scalp). Some spots being more severe.
- cannot stop myself from scratching esp. when I'm asleep.
- stings when shower (open wounds)
- bedsheet/clothes bloodstained
- colorless "pus" like liquid produced in certain areas
- skin drying up and droping like flakes

Went back to NSC early Sept, doctor just prescribed more steroid cream and antiseptic wash.
Also told me that i can try UV light therapy if nothing works but im still considering.
Oh btw, each visit to NSC costs me 2-300$.... fml

Just wondering if anybody have similar stories? able to advice?

Currently am on:
Cetaphil Restoraderm (Eczema prone) for body moisteruiser
Ceradan for face (as it's really ex)
Steroid cream (which i am trying to abstain now) is vizomet mometasone 0.1%
suubalm itch relieving menthol cream (cold effect so won't scratch)

Soap:
Cetaphil PRO Gentle Body Wash -for body
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser -for face
& Some antiseptic wash to leave on body awhile after soap

Really running out of options..
Even while wearing long sleeve, I would get looks from people as it's spreading to near my finger area and my face looks swollen and red.. Can barely go to work/out in the day.
Everyone just tells me not to scratch/apply moisteruiser. Seriously they all think I want to scratch meh :'( Sigh
.. I wake up in the middle of the night looking at my finger nails stained with blood
Would appreciate any sort of advice offered. Thank you so much..

Hi! May I know what antiseptic wash you are using?

I think you must control your diet. For me, I don take chicken, duck, chilli, peanuts, green tea. These are a few things that I don take.

Why not try for 1 week see if there's any improvement.

Actually, somehow i feel eczema can be contagious.. in a way eg. you have finger nails, you scratch your affected area, then without knowing, u touch elsewhere.. then that part also suddenly inflammed and kena eczema.. anyone feels this way too? or also small area suddenly enlarge become super large area affected.. also the skin cells dropped all over your area of sleeping seems like if never vaccum or clean properly your partner may start to get itches..

anyway actually is stop scratching no matter how itchy it is.. have to tahan.. next, please dont use steriod creams, ive experienced applying it and it didnt really work and worse, become infected, something like pimple.. aka abscess.. best remedies ive seen is actually natural healing.. such as good proper hygiene, better shower wash/gel.. and lastly dont scratch..
