I have a thumbdrive that is formatted in NTFS and each time I need to delete the files, I have to reboot in Boot Camp and run Win 8.1. to do so.

Surely there has to be an easier way? Anyone know how I can edit a NTFS formatted thumbdrive from inside OS X?

you can install the ntfs drivers for MacOS... if you've bought some WD or Seagate external hard disks, they do give a free NTFS software that you can install on your Mac to allow writing to NTFS volumes. Once you have this, you can write to any NTFS volumes including flash drives.

the software is also available on their respective website's support page.

Or simply format the thumb drive to fat64 (exFAT)..

Most Windows machines sold in the last few yes can read it natively..

Problem is the thumbdrive is being used on my Happauge DVR. I'm worried it may not accept fat64 since it does specifically say NTFS.

It can recognise FAT32 but problem is the recorded video ends up in chunks of 2GB and apparently only on NTFS formatted thumbdrive then its not broken up in chunks.

thats weird, shouldn't it be 4GB? it is becos fat32 format itself have the file size limitation. nothing you can do about it.

your easiest option is to allow your mac to write to NTFS partition.

btw, doesn't your DVR allow delete option?

Oops ok maybe it was 4GB. :s13:

No delete option. Its the Happauge Rocket. Very simple hand held device. Guess I will try the instructions over at Enable NTFS write on Mac OS X Mavericks for free and geeky way - Learn-a-holic Geek Notes during the weekend and hopefully I don't end up foobaring my Mac in the process or setting off North Korean nukes. :D

Don't know, never tried. I mostly record console games. :D I suspect not. I read something about it not being able to record HDCP protected content or some other thingamajig.

Err can trouble you to try?:D Singtel MioTV should be the same.

Looking to get DVR to record so I can downgrade hubstation to the HD set top box for cost saving.

Yeah that's where want to find out if these set top boxes uses HDCP, highly think

Have a few other brands considering like EyeTV and Avermedia.

In the past, I used Avermedia to record starhub using RCB cables from normal hubstation. On those cables already able to prevent recording of selected channels and programmes. I dunno how they did it.

I would assume, the same copy protection is there over HDCP.

the interesting thing is the copy right is there during live broadcast, but if you recorded on hubstation and playback, the copyright prevention is gone.

That's kinda odd, I believe HDCP should only kick in when a HDMI cable is connected to the STB. But if just component cables are connected, should be okay right?

Unless they have a different kind of encryption other than HDCP.

Which model of Avermedia did you got? Was thinking of getting one of these

Not really a point to record off from hubstation recording as I intend to get rid of the hubstation and get the cheaper HD Interactive box instead and once my contract ends, just get rid of starhub totally.

I had the same thinking as you but based on what I can find out, they embed the copyright restriction signal inside the video feed and Avermedia software respects that.

Its not HDCP, HDCP only for HDMI.

it was just a simple USB aver media stick but the restriction came from the software not the stick, you can view the input video on the machine just fine, just aver media will prompt you unable to record copyright video when you try to record.

anyway, its years back, if its HDCP, it will be a totally different problem set. besides, after using hubstation for so long, I'm too used to the scheduling system, I feel too lazy to schedule by time and make sure the correct channel is on the setup box.
