My advice is dont bring any knives in luggage not even in check in. I got stopped by customs even though I was in red zone to declare a small blade which I had used for opening titbits from Thailand and the ASP at Budget tried to give me a hard time for 2 hours. What happened was that I was waiting for my luggage and I noticed I was the last to get it, and it was on a special baggage. Immediately, the ASP was so excited he picked up my bag, and walked me to the red zone for scanning- which i intended to go to anyway since my bag was the last.
He then looked at my wife and asked her if she had anything to declare. She said no. He didnt ask me. And when he opened my bag, he knew exactly where my knife was. So he accused me of not declaring the knife. I told him, you didnt ask me, anyway we are in the red zone, its common sense that I have something to declare that's why we are here. You didnt catch me trying to walk out in Green, so whats this rubbish about not declaring?
He held my wife and me in his office with our passports and called in the police
Meantime he was saying nasty things and false accusations so I quarrelled with him, telling him he should watch his words because everything he says, I will report later to his superiors. He claimed you didnt declare the knife, I said, why should I? I was in the red zone. Common sense, I am declaring since I am in red zone. And you didnt ask me. He said, I asked your wife, you travel as a couple, ask her means ask you. I said to him, you must have **** for brains if you asked a tour guide if he has anything to declare does he answer for the whole tour? We were shouting at each other, and I used my phone to video parts of it.
They took pictures(with a borrowed camera)of the blade, and tried to scan the picture and print, and he had no ink in his lazer printer. It seems they have not been working for a long time since they dont have camera or ink in the printer and did not know. In fact they didnt even know how to print and ended up with a thumbnail, black and white image. They were so excited, as if catch big fish. Measuring again and again, saying if I throw it, it will kill someone. I was like, I can stab you with a pencil and it can kill.
The Auntie SSG said, dont you watch crime watch? Didnt you see me give me eye contact?
I said to her, you mean now the ICA academy train you to ask people if they have anything to declare with eye contact? How do I know you are not a dirty auntie?
The police came and after my interview told him, he had no case and to release me and the blade. He had no face to face me, so he asked his Auntie SSG to release the blade to me. I reported him for improper conduct and procedure, for holding my wife up even though she was not involved and after that, my wife who flies with tiger airways air crew, never saw him at budget terminal anymore.

Just 1 year back only. He was a old dude, baldy, and was probably in the sunset years of his job, ASP in charge of budget terminal.

More tales with ICA

The other day, I went to JB for supper, and because the new Checkpoint in JB was so confusing, I ended up turning round and round and back at the JB customs, even though I just entered. I asked the customs how to turn back, I just got in, wanted to go for supper and he directed me to "this" road and it led back to Singapore. Okay fair enough maybe he didnt understand my english.
At Singapore, I told the ICA booth lady that I had not stamped my passport to leave JB and I just wanted to have supper there and what did she do? Instead of turning me around back to JB, she held my passport and asked me to go to the room. Waited 30 mins, before the ASP took my case, he asked me, what was I doing in the office, and I said, I AM TRYING TO HAVE SUPPER IN JB!!! He said, here, follow the guy he will turn you back so you can go back to JB. It only took 2 mins to do, but 30 mins wait for them to realise its a simple process.
JB customs saw my passport, and let me in, because it was already stamped on the card- No drama like Singapore.

With ICA like that, do we still question how Mas Salamat got out? Or how the Singaporean guy managed to get out of Singapore on Tiger Airways with the wrong passport?

I mean instead of catching the real offenders, threats, we waste human resources, on making Singaporean lifes difficult or being so jaded, slack that we let the most simple of task fail us?

confirm order tonight? i tong bang one sog seal pup elite, ok?
Vinn contacted first, and he's ordering a folder. Maybe you combine with Dragon your order can?

Wa! Big order leh! I added to cart to test, shipping is still under 35USD, but with my order, the GST charges will makes it more logical to seperate the order.

So many buying fixed blade? I had problems before purchasing fixed blade, especially points that are sharp out of the box, might have to go cantonment and let them blunt the tips before collecting leh.. in the end I ordered via sheares and ask the knifemaker for a custom unsharpened blade with engraving..

My company order them in the hundreds..... :o but it is kitchen knives though... but still it is still knives... :s13:

You said it already.. your company probably has a license to import knives as a business. I'm just concern about the limit before ICA ask for license.

ICA issues licence for importing?

I thought it was police licencing at cantonment.

Yeah, ICA will let a few knife pass, but once the amount is sizable, they will ask the recipient to show the license before they release or else they will return the package to sender.

knives for personal use (not for sale) do not need license to import. unless total is more than $400, no gst is needed.

LOL, but you do realize it's very easy to hit $400 right.. everytime I order sure nearly hit.. very hard to resist add to cart leh!
