Anywhere to buy affordable mj tiles?

try this

http://www.shp88.com/

caveat:

this place does distribution. so i feel that their attitude is quite lacking towards walk in customers, ie, people who arent big spenders, those who usually spend less than $100. if u spend more or buy electronic tables, perhaps they might entertain you more.

also, their after sales service is bad.

hence, check your tiles carefully first before paying. but dont check until u irritate them/the aunty/the tall young guy boss.

i see them scared people topple their mj tables. scared people drop their tiles.... wah lau...... very niao.

if u wanna go down. narrow down to a few patterns u like. text the guy over the phone. ask for size, price, and if there is stock before u go down. so when u go down u dont need to bother him with too many questions.

i've bought a few items there before. they are cheaper than others but not say very cheap.

check out their old and outdated facebook page. got 2 customer complaints inside.

Ah.... this place.

I bought a Mahjong table from this place and it's really cheap and good. Just take and go.

Didn't stay on to browse the various Mahjong tile sets and chips though. :o

Ah.... this place.

I bought a Mahjong table from this place and it's really cheap and good. Just take and go.

Didn't stay on to browse the various Mahjong tile sets and chips though. :o

I went to this place to buy 2 mahjong sets and a metal case.

I've been there before to buy a table as a gift for a fren. simple cheap table, the blue kind with rubber sides. i like cos the rubber is good for resting your arms. it was $40 back then. cash and carry price. now the price has gone up to $45

Im also aware of their 2 bad reviews in their Facebook page. said aunty gave bad service, especially after sales service. it was her whom I bought my table from.

on this occasion when I bought 2 sets, I was served by a younger tall guy. I found that he is a bit niao. when he was serving another man, I was looking at his tables and I shifted one out to see. so I pulled one table out. then he asked me what I want. I replied, I want to look at tables, can I see?

then he said that he's afraid I'll topple his table. I never said anything. just ignore and continue myself.

anyway, when he was done with that customer, he attended to me, answered my queries about the tables. they have a few nice tables and their prices are lower than outside. cos they do distribution

so I bought my 2 sets of tiles and a metal box. I tried to inspect meticulously as much as I could, but I could only do so much cos the tiles were dirtied by some dirt outside the plastic wrapping and ink (from the colouring of the engraving) inside the wrapping. so I cannot distinguish which one is dirt and which one is defects.

I brought it down to my car, inspected more..... saw what I dont like.

brought it up to his unit (its a industrial building), he buffed and cleaned the defects for me. but later I found another one with defects so I went back again. he was like, impatiently told me to just take another set, which was what I had in mind. so i chose another design and swiftly left. a bit cheesed off by his behaviour. in the end, I left with a set which I didnt intend to buy.

but still, it was better with owning a set which was defected and gave me the 没有远 feeling. later i keep losing with this set how? LOL

also, when a couple came in to beo mj sets... they removed one wrapped stack from his display cabinet to beo. later he quickly took it off their hands. he said he was afraid the wrapper gave way and they would drop the tiles....... *rolls eyes*

do note that all this time I made it a point to talk very gently and polite and meek. i dunno WTF i did that, maybe it was because of his tall stature and behaviour? I could have just suan-ed him and walked away.

IMO, they're only interested in doing big biz, like serving clients who buy a few sets or buy their machine tables or doing distribution. not keen on walk in clients who spend only $100+

PLUS, after cleaning all the tiles at home meticulously, I found that one of my tiles have a permanent dot at the side of the tile. so its quite easy to identify what tile it is. I'll either have to go back and maybe get him to buff it out using his buffing machine or maybe just use the spare tile and engrave a new one, which I am afraid would look different from the original ones cos sometimes the ink used have a different colour tone.

my recommendation is,

if anyone isnt fussy about their tiles and tables, can go to them to just buy and go. but if u want to inspect every square inch on your tile and tables for defects.... better go elsewhere and pay a bit more

*oops. i just realised I repeated what I've typed before :s13:

I had been looking for this mahjong shop on level 2 or 3 formerly at People's Park Complex.... finally I found it at People's Park Center which is just next door

wanted to buy a good table after I managed to sell off my old table on Carousell. am new to Carousell, Im very amazed at all the old junk I could sell it there and how people would buy all sorts of old sh!t which I want to throw LOL

googled for mahjong shops in Sg, gave me 3 results. the one in city plaza as mentioned above by someone. the shop at the factory industrial building which I was talking about. and this Yit Fatt.

a little desperate, I text the guy at that factory building and showed him a photo of what I wanted from his website. asked him how much and if he had stock (cos he didnt have it during my last visit 2 weeks ago) he said $118 and need to pre order.

so I went down to Yit Fatt. saw what I liked. its the thick solid wood type, with thick sturdy legs (silver colour). got 2 sizes. I always wanted to try a bigger sized table for bigger playing surface.

smaller one ($168), bigger one ($188). lady boss offered them at $160 and $180 plus one free felt top.

so I took the $180 one. gave me a new one (caveat - try not to take those on display outside the shop. she wanted to offload me a lighter colour one, last piece she said, original $180, she offered $160, upon inspection, KNN, it had full of dents and chips). uncle then drilled the legs onto the table and later wheeled the table to the lift and to my car.

frenly and good service if u're willing to pay retail prices as compared to 'that factory' prices. but their mj sets arent cheap. i saw most of the A1 tiles going for $118! while 'that factory' shop was selling theirs at $73 not sure if they're the same tiles or if there's any difference in quality and engraving. engraving is important to me, esp on animals and flowers. some animals are ugly AF!

I see... then I will take note not to buy mahjong tiles from them liao since they require checking tile by tile unlike Mahjong table where we can check very fast. :o
