Thread for discussions related to retirement.

Come share what you are doing in retirement.
Food. Travels. Activities. Fitness. Health.
Also can discuss how you were able to retire. Money. Investments.

Realized there isn't really a thread in EDMW on this topic specifically.

Recent hot topic discussion on Retirement:

For those thinking about retirement — have you wondered what life will feel like when work is no longer part of your daily routine?

There is a CNA commentary about a retiree adjusting after a four-decade career. One question stood out:

“What happens when work no longer defines who I am?”

We spend a lot of time preparing financially for retirement, but perhaps less time thinking about purpose, identity and routine.

Retirement could mean slowing down — or staying engaged through mentoring, volunteering, hobbies or part-time work.

What would you want your next stage of life to look like?

Those are threads about people thinking of retiring. Not actually already retired. And in many cases people just lamenting how they cannot retire.

Retired life is not always what people think it is. It is quite a normal life.

In Canada, do ad hoc work is considered retired :s11:

I thought totally no work then is a retired life.

Can retirees share how much you getting per month and how much your monthly expenses on average? I wanna have a gauge how much is enough to retire. :frown:

I consider myself retired because I no longer need to work to support my lifestyle. My investments and passive income are sufficient to cover my expenses, and most of the time I hardly do any work anyway. The ad hoc work I still take on is entirely optional — I can work when I feel like it, turn work down when I don’t, and stop altogether without affecting my lifestyle. So while it may not fit the traditional definition of retirement as doing absolutely no paid work, I feel retired because work is now a choice rather than a necessity, and it occupies very little of my life.

Can. But I hope this thread is less about cannot retire topics than sharing what retirement is like and how retirement is possible.
