Is Eight OK for 4G router?
I'm not getting fibre internet for new home, so wondering whether there is throttling. A resident feedback that Giga Starhub is OK at the new place.
They’re both riding on StarHub. However, neither is unlimited — their data caps are “hard” caps. You might prefer MyRepublic Mobile’s 4G plan at $8.71 per month which includes a “soft cap” of 88GB. Thereafter, data is unlimited but throttled. MyRepublic’s 4G plans use M1’s 4G network. If this service is for “Internet of Things” purposes, and your goal is to maintain at least a basic connection even if somehow you inadvertently bust a data cap, then maybe that’s a better fit. It just depends on what you’re trying to do.

Another potential option is the SIMBA $5 seniors plan which includes 100GB per 30 days of full speed data and unlimited throttled (512 Kb/s) data thereafter. It’s available to seniors age 60+ and up to a maximum of 4 lines per eligible senior. Operates over SIMBA’s network of course.

It only costs S$8 to test Eight Mobile.

Put into a mifi and used in Malaysia for a month. Didn’t notice any throttling. Maybe my usage was light. Less than 100gb.
Malaysia uses 5G so can't really compare the speeds Vs in SG 4G. I get much better speeds when I was roaming in JB.

Anyone tried to reload and revive an Eight SIM after more than 60 days no load?

Based on my experiences, both Zero1 and MR throttled speed does have limits, the unlimited data at throttled speed is just gimmick. But given the present amount of data offered compared to last time, the additional throttled speed provision is actually not quite an attraction anymore too.

yes can.

if u read carefully, the 60 days grace is for wiping out your wallet balance only, if any.
beyond 60 days, your number will still be able to connect Eight network.
until they decide to sweep "inactive" numbers. i.e. never switch on phone/latch onto network for many months.

diff location diff speed, diff flooring diff speed, diff

u can spent $8 to do one month trial test...
1. use mobile to hotspot first
2. if speed ok, buy 4g router to test.

Alternatively....now the cheapest broadband is $24 per month... maybe can share the broadband subscription cost with ur nearby neighbour.

The equivalent of $28.81 per month, actually. Whizcomms charges $54.50 for installation and $61.04 for NLT activation. You have to add those fees to the $24/month charge (24 month contract), and when you do it's the equivalent of $28.81/month (although the fees are paid up front).

At contract renewal you'll probably get an offer below $28.81/month (such as $24/month), but that's not guaranteed.

All of these prices are a lot higher than $8/30 days (Eight Mobile) or $5/30 days (SIMBA senior plan). If mobile data works well enough for you, you can save some money.

i disagreed. Installation fees is one time fees, it shouldn't be a factor consideration inclusive inside monthly subscription fees.

tbh, i won't compare.... To me, they are 2 diff things.
mobile broadband will not be the same as home broadband. The stability connection without interruption at anytime. U can refer to this page. some went back to home broadband after trying mobile broadband

what i suggest to that user, is try out first before committing in buying LTE router.

So a one-time installation fee of $1,000 should also be ignored?

SIMs/eSIMs don't typically have installation fees of any kind. Of course installation and activation fees matter. They're real costs, and it's proper to consider them in any cost comparisons.

Then why don't we all still have fixed telephone lines?

Some people are fine without fibre broadband service. Some lucky people can even get public Wi-Fi service (Wireless@SGx for example) without leaving their homes. I don't judge; what works for others may not work for me, or vice versa.
