If u use for china and some other 5g apac then 10 dollars would make more sense. And if u r looking out for the cheapest true 5g. Eight is one of them.
Eight's 4G plans can still roam internationally onto 5G. That'll depend on the foreign network, of course. 5G voice roaming isn't mature yet, so that part is unlikely no matter what you do. You'll likely fall back to VoLTE in countries/territories where voice/SMS support is available. WiFi Calling (VoWiFi) works otherwise as long as you have a viable Internet connection over Wi-Fi.

In some countries/territories you might even roam onto 3G or even 2G.

Getting 5G+ on my Poco F8 Pro (same as Zym's) in East (at first still showing 4G, gotta toggle airplane mode lol) :ROFLMAO:

still need to ‘toggle’ to get 5G? Then it seems like the 5G coverage is still …. 🤪

but what about the speed and latency of 5G?

Subjected to location based. Starhub generally don't do well in west

5G has started for so long again the 5G is still …. ? 😛

Eight is using the 5G network built by StarHub and M1 via joint-venture rite? So m1 users should be having similar 5G experience?

but if Simba really takes over xxx … next time Simba will also be … ?

Your phone and the network usually try to cooperate on delivering "optimal" service, balancing a variety of factors. A 4G LTE connection is still a very good connection, and it doesn't run down your battery as fast. Frequent 4G/5G/4G network switches can also run down your battery faster. Your phone (and the network) shouldn't be plastering a "5" on the screen "just because." Most people would be disappointed if a phone/network combination did that.

In Singapore most of the 5G network coverage is in higher frequency bands, the ones that don't penetrate buildings and other structures as well as "low band" does. For example, if you're moving from building to building, maybe riding a lift or two, possibly visiting shops in a mall's basement levels, etc., etc., your phone (and the mobile network) would probably quite sensibly keep you on 4G LTE absent a compelling reason otherwise. Singtel has some low band 5G now, so they and their MVNOs might be an exception.

....But if you want to nudge your phone in a certain direction, OK, have fun I guess.

Yes, that's called "nudging your phone." You're basically encouraging your phone to forget the recent past when it had a perfectly usable signal.

Most people want their phones to be somewhat "sticky" when they get a decent or better connection, and (relatedly) to consume battery power sensibly. But you can often "force" your phone to behave more like a hyperactive teenager if seeing "5" on your screen makes you happy.🤷

Haha relax bro, don't need to get so worked up and start criticizing right, apple tech support or some Telco tech support also will ask you to toggle airplane mode off and on during troubleshooting steps mah, chill lah..

Moreover I was merely responding to one of the fellows here

Don't need to start calling names lah, maintain a healthy discussion la bro, Sg really stress, like that also randomly people get pissed :(

Last year when i roam with 4G plans I was unable to latch on 5G. Did that changed ?
Also eight appears to block Wifi calling when overseas when I trying to use it in a few hotel late 2025.

Here are some Eight puzzles. Eight lists "smartone" as their sole roaming partner in Macau in their "APAC 20" list. In their "Group A" list they include SmarTone and Hutchison Macau in "Macao" (different spelling). SmarTone shut down its services in Macau on November 11, 2024.🤔

Another oddity is that they list the United States under both Group A and Group B. That can't be right. (Who'd ever pay the higher Group B rate for additional data?) And they include "Sprint Nextel Op" as a roaming partner in the U.S. T-Mobile acquired Sprint Nextel several years ago and shut down all Sprint networks by June 30, 2022. (The "Nextel" part is especially hilarious since Sprint acquired Nextel many years before that and shut down the Nextel network in 2013.)

For Macau, they listed CTM in their preferred roaming telco list previously in their PDF list. However, after they revamp their website then strangely they revert to Smartone.

Macau currently only have CTM and China Telecom Macau.

hi there
I recently signed up for Eight plan and requested for number porting to retain my existing number
however, my existing number is Singtel CIS number and it seems my company unwilling to authorize the transfer the number to me.

let's say if I don't port over my existing number, does it mean I get stuck with the temporary number given to me ? The number is quite bad. Is it possible, and how do I select another number on Eight ?
