The topup credit macam bo hua.
Mightswell port in to ZYM for free 6 months if I want to lock in 1 year. $5.05/month
Yes, or maybe VIVFI which seems to be offering $45 for 12 months on their Roam Asia Super plan, to certain port in customers anyway. That’s $3.75 per month if you get that offer, what they call “Offer A.” Here’s how they phrase it:

Upon successful eligibility check during sign-up, customer may qualify for either Offer A or Offer B. Customer can check the eligibility for either the 9-month or 6-month waiver by creating a VIVIFI account and selecting the current port-in operator before purchasing the plan.

So you have to create a VIVIFI account (which presumably means getting on their email list) to see the offer. If you get the 9 month offer, you win this lottery. But if you don’t win Offer A they still have a $10/month “VIBE” plan offering 6 months free. That’d be equivalent to $5 per month, also rather good (except for seniors).

VIVIFI operates on Singtel’s network. The bundled international roaming mostly isn’t as good as what Eight and SIMBA offer, but it’s pretty good. A couple months of 5G are included.

Unless the no. Is 88888888, otherwise forget it...lol
If it’s that number, contact your MP and work together on a solution — perhaps with IMDA involved. (And why the heck did the owner port into SIMBA, a carrier that doesn’t allow transfer of ownership? Water under the bridge, I guess.)

$88 lock chiu in for 11mths. :poop:
Clever marketing tactic. Confirm will have carrotheads misinterpret topup $68 and get "additional" $88!
It’s 17 months(*) for seniors, equivalent to $4 per 30 days [with $3 left over — get the 18th month(*) after a $2 top up]. Can you beat $4 per 30 days?

Answering my own question, maybe. See my post about VIVIFI’s possible $3.75 per month offer.

(*) Actually per 30 days.

There’s also risk you’ll lose the number with the status quo. The currently assigned owner of the line is sadly deceased. The government and mobile carriers are more concerned about SIM/eSIM abuse and misuse, as they define it. (The government enacted a new law in April, 2024, that contained new SIM/eSIM-related provisions.) I don’t think we can rule out the possibility of future periodic audits to close lines owned by deceased people.

If you cannot afford to lose the number, fix that. Prepare to lose it as best you can. But FWIW my view is you ought to take advantage of VIVIFI’s transfer-ownership-on-port-in offer “soon.” No promises, but I think it’s the least risky option if you want to preserve this number. Then get to a carrier that has a documented transfer ownership on death option (if that isn’t VIVIFI; I haven’t checked that part). SIMBA is not currently a good carrier for these purposes since they don’t facilitate any transfers of ownership. Nor does Eight.
Wah I didn’t know that. I thought as long as we keep paying for my dad every month, they wouldn’t bother or know. (Not that I have lost a parent before or anyone close to have to think about all these also… plus I’m not very savvy on these port in port out thingy :o Even Eight is still quite new to me despite using for like 9 months)

I will consider this VIVIFI thingy and also let my sibling know. Thank you!

What’s ZYM’s data, local calls duration, etc? Got free roaming?

Eight is the first low cost telco I use and I am very happy with it :o I have never tried any others before. Very suaku haiz :s13: Last time use StarHub, SingTel… Haiz. Stupidly paid so much every month ($40+ to $60+) for a pathetic 3GB under sinktel. I even intro my dad’s caregiver Eight and she didn’t know got such $8 de plan and she ish so happy when I told her :s13:

Eight can be an affordable choice for the not so rich group, but this promo definitely do not benefit them, or anyone. they just want to tie u down, like a contract. haha.
Yah I was thinking how they make money :o :s13:
But nowadays so many $5 / under $10 plan also. Rich or not, there is no reason to use sinktel all these.

There's no guarantee of that.

Unfortunately there can be some bureaucratic steps involved in "tidying up" when a family member passes on. You'll get through it; just be patient and take it step by step. (I can vouch. Unfortunately.) I'm not suggesting you have a 10 minute deadline or anything like that. Think about what you want to do, but I would try to get that line shifted to a living owner "reasonably soon" if you want to keep the number. And on a carrier that can handle transfer-after-death if your family wants to keep the number longer than the next owner's lifetime.

Good luck!

Duno if ok to do so, but my dad passed away recently. We still keep his mobile phone to manage some stuff and I think his plan ish still active, on Simba $5. His mobile number is also unique as he paid for it and we want to keep it forever.

Can my mom sign himself an Eight line using the $5 senior plan August promo? :o
maybe consider port-in to CMLink (transfer ownership), then port to eight $5.

Number is not registered under your name

"Water under the bridge." Don't worry about it.

Yes, CMLink offers the same transfer-ownership-with-port-in that VIVIFI does, using the same steps (a verification text message sent to the port-in number). But I cannot find any information about whether they support transfer of ownership once you're there (on CMLink). And, to be precise, what's really required is a transfer of ownership upon death (or incapacity) of the line's owner. Singtel can do that (I've checked), but I'm not sure about other MNOs or MVNOs except that both SIMBA and Eight don't facilitate ownership transfers of any sort.

This might be an area IMDA ought to regulate.
