Ive decided to share with my peers here some of the modules that I have taken throughout my stint in NTU. A very impt note to take back is to not take an elective that you have no interest in even if you intend to SU it.

This is what I have done bef:

BU8101, Accounting perspective:
Those with PoA background would be at an advantage. If you like maths, this subject would not be that difficult for you. This is the module that i spent the most time on. Doing tutorials and extra questions. Since this course is an elective, but core for MS students, you'll be competing with students from other courses. This also means that there is bell curve moderation (got good got bad).

Tips: Read up before lectures, be attentive during lectures. Read up textbook after lectures and do every tutorials (Must Do!). Ask questions during seminar if you dont understand.

BU8601, Fundamentals of Management:
This is also an business elective module, but a core for MS students. I must say that there are really a lot of content to understand and learn. However, tips are given for exams so please attend all the lectures if you do not want to miss out any hints and study like mad. You'll be studying about human behaviour, leadership and planning in this module which can be really useful in the future.

Tips: Put in effort for your group project (20%), speak up during seminar and ask questions if you have (normally there are no questions cause everyone dont really understand). Read up before lectures and do the tutorials. Dont get disheartened if you cant do the tutorials or find it difficult. The exam questions will be easier and much more

I have decided make the review a lil shorter to make it easier for vewing purpose.

BU8301 Business Law

IIRC, this course uses the same book as AB1301 so you can borrow from friends in NBS. This course gives you an insight of how law works and basically how you argue your point when given a situation. The lecturers will give you the gist of business law every week while the tutors teaches you how to use preccedents (previous cases) to argue your point. For every senario, there will be steps as to how to answer the questions and using the final verdict of preccedents to substantiate your argument. This is an open book module and a very heavy content module. I would not suggest you to take this module if you have no interest. I spent at least two hours outside of classroom to read the Law book and do my tutorial questions. 1.5hours Lect and 1.5hours TUT

BU8201 Business Finance

This is one more the more popular modules among the BM electives and I strongly suggest all of you to take it if you intend to score. That being said, effort must be put in to understand and do complete weekly tutorials.

This module basically teaches you on stocks, bonds, NPV, IRR, Interest, amortization, appreciation and so on. So of the things overlaps with BU8101. I will not go into details of what is being taught. However, if you are interested in how financial instrument works and you are good at maths, this will be the module for you. I spent 2-3hours every week out of classroom to read the textbook and do my tutorial. The textbook is really very useful and important even tho the lecturer is really good too in explaining the notes.

You will need a financial calculator for this module. This module used to be 75% MCQ 25% Problem Sums but I heard it changed. The overall weightage should still be the same: 60% finals, 20% quiz, 20% attendance + presentation. My tutor that time was Mr Pang Caiji. If possible try to email him to ask him what slots are his tutorials, he is very helpful in answering all the questions you have with regards to the module. 2hr Lect 1hr Tut

HE9091 Principles of Economics

2hrs Lect 1hr Tut. You will be able to score if you have econs background. More than 70% of what is taught have been taught in JC. Exams used to be in a mixture of MCQs and Open Ended Questions but it is now all Open Ended IIRC. Doing PYP is essential in doing well and do email lecturer when you have any questions. He is more than willing to help.

Astro and beauty and the myth. If you don't mind mcq with short-answers questions, can try forensic science or digital lifestyle.

You can take Intro To Energy as UE. Under school of mechanical engineering. 3 tests, all multiple choices, no exams at all. I wanted to take but it will clash with my core

CM8002 FORENSIC SCIENCE Review

Hello everyone,
I am thinking of taking CM8002- FORENSIC SCIENCE
Or EE8086- ASTRONOMY - STARS, GALAXIES AND COSMOLOGY
as my UE choices.
Because I already have a lot of cores and so I want an easy elective that is easy to score in and does not have to much course load.

Can anyone please give me some information on these courses?

Something along the lines of:
1)Interesting? Liked it?
2)Easy/Difficult?
3)Prof OK?
4)Course load? Quizzes? Any assignments?

Thanks!

I can answer for CM8002, because this was prescribed to me in Year 1 Sem 1. It is pretty interesting, because you get to know about the science behind the crime investigation techniques. There will be two lecturers for this course. I'd say it's pretty easy if you study the notes well. The exam format is MCQ with a 20 mark case study.
