eMMC storage

I've seen some budget laptops with eMMC 32 GB as storage instead of SSD or HDD.

I know eMMC is slower than SSD, and uses less power than HDD.

Can ppl who have used laptop with eMMC storage before share their experience? How fast is eMMC compared to a laptop 2.5" HDD?

Quick Analysis on the 4 impromptu readings:

Overall it can be seen that the SSD - even a "sub standard one" blows the competition away with extremely good read speeds - approx >4 times as compared to an OEM 5400RPM HDDS of various storage capacities and close to equal write speeds with conventional hard disks.

As for the eMMC, it's no doubt slower than the SSD in terms of read speeds, but is still a reasonable 2 times faster than a conventional HDD.
Of course the gap would be lowered if a higher RPM HDD is tested against the SSD but it is still a reasonable performance for devices that are meant for portability and long battery life.

Having said that, those are bench mark performances and benchmark performances do not exactly reflect 1:1 in real life - but it is safe to say that eMMC storage will perform as well or better than a HDD.

So, speed:
2.5" laptop HDD < eMMC < SSD

From what I remember reading, eMMC lacks some features present in SSD. Can't remember exactly, but wear levelling may be one feature.

eMMC = embedded SD card, non-replaceable and non-upgradable.

I'll stay with proper SATA / M.2 STATA / M.2 PCIe SSDs. At least these are upgradable.
